Hey guys, for the past 3 to 4 months i have experienced bad stitches within 1000 meters into my race. Now its not that Im inexperienced, Ive been running races for at least 5 years now and ever since i took a break 6 months ago i have been getting them. And its not my diet as i dont eat 3hours before the race and i dont drink 2hours before. In my most race my stitch started beside my ribs on the right side it then moved down to my left side above my hip :p
If anybody has experienced this before write back please as it ids effecting my running performance greatly

I'd love to hear people's opinions on this too as also suffer with this. Besides pressing really hard on the area and doing some rhythmic breathing, i can't offer any advice to you. This usually works for me eventually but I can lose a lot of time in races because of this. I'd consider myself quite fit so don't understand why this happens either.

Do you ever get a stitch other than in a race?
Do you get it in all races?
Do you ever do race pace reps greater than 1000m?
Have you tried not eating at all on the day of a race?
Do you warm up before a race?
Ever tried starting a race off at a controlled pace and progressively speeding up?

And its not my diet as i dont eat 3hours before the race and i dont drink 2hours before
I had to increase it to 4 hours before the race to avoid them

I don't want to be seen to give medical advice, but I know that Claralara was constantly getting stitches (especially in races) when her iron levels were low. I am not saying your iron levels are low OP, but it might be worth your while getting your bloods checked for any problems.

Get your blood checked for deficiencies like iron,b12, etc also you could try not eating for 4 hours before and if you take on alot of water at once it can cause a stitch so sip the water instead of big mouthfuls

If your bloods come back ok then maybe get checked for hernia?

I use to get them alot too then was told to get checked for low Iron etc.Sure enough my Iron was on the low side and so after taking a supplement for awhile i use to not get them as frequently.I have'nt got one in ages but i now realise ive now probably just gone and jinxed myself and will get a bad one this weekend:rolleyes:.
As one of the Flanders kids said in the Simpsons:"Iron helps us play":).

I got a one in the Cork half in 2011. After a mile things were going all good. This guy I know from work started to run beside me and had a bit of a chat about the weather etc. So this went on for about 3/4 mins. He speeds on ahead of me and says "See you latter Dave" - My name is not Dave or anything like it. I had the giggles for a mile or so. He still calls me Dave on a daily basis at work. Its gone on now to long to correct him. He is one of these guys who starts and finishes ever sentence with your first name which is all the more funny.
