Hi I just received latest tax assessment on rental amount received for my house rented out, since we moved abroad a couple of years ago.

My wife doesnt have a job still, and so is earning zero.
My Q is, should the revenue Comm. have put her tax allowance ( for non-earning spouse), against the rental income as well as my own personal allowance. Is there still such an allowance as a non-earning spousal tax allowance?

I tried to fill that in on the form online, but it wouldnt let me so.....

You each have a personal Tax Credit --- This is transferable between spouses - Are you using hers against your PAYE income?

Thanks for replying. As i am outside the country i dont pay tax in ireland anymore - just income tax on the rental from the house. I guess thats not paye type income tax.
I was wondering if both spouses have a tax free allowance and whether they both can be used together to set against any income from the house rental.
Yes of course , just realised neither of us are paying anyr income tax in Ireland now other than the tax received from the rented house . Nevertheless, I got a personal allowance against the rental income - should my wife also get one?

Personal Allowances are gone with a good number of years - not being pedantic but it gets confusing if the wrong terms are used -- You and your wife each get a personal tax credit

As you are living abroad I think you get your personal tax credits apportioned in the amount of your Irish income over your total worldwide income.

I imagine your rental income can be split between you and your wife - but a call to revenue would probably answer this for you
