Firstly, the long-running Sunday Service aired for the last time last Sunday and has been axed in favour of SPIN Hits with Paul Bonass from 12.45.
Also, Paul's old slot of Sunday Breakfast has been replaced by highlights of The SPIN, a bad move IMO. This means that most people won't hear songs they like until 12.45 on a Sunday which is ridiculous.

Specialist shows Transmit (Saturday night/Sunday morning) and The Block with Brian Maher (Tuesdays from 11.45pm) have also been axed.

On the upside Paul Bonass is a brilliant presenter! :)

He really is. Sunday afternoon is more suitable for someone of his calibre rather than sunday morning. I'm glad he has been slightly promoted, he really deserves it
Surely SPIN will replace Paul on Sunday Breakfast instead of the best of The SPIN. Riyadh Khalaf, Martin Guilfoyle or Shona Ryan could all be used.

UPDATE: All of the midweek specialist shows have been axed in favour of SPIN Hits @ Night from Sunday to Thursday nights at 11.45pm with Pete Maguire's Resistance having a new home of Friday nights at 11.45pm.

I thought SPIN had to play a certain amount of dance music and that was why those specialist shows were there. Have Club Educate and Dirty Disco survived? - I see Club Educate is on the Northern Irish CHR station Cool FM.

Also, The same with Phantom, Communicorp are obsessed with repeating programmes on Sunday morning. In my opinion, it would'nt be hard and would be better for the listener if Nikki Hayes or another daytime jock could voicetrack the links for their show on Friday, and what about the music director Shona Ryan. She was once the presenter of Spin @ Work and then got moved to a smaller weekend gig. She would be an obvious candidate. They have the software there to do it (RCS Master Control) - so why not?.

It dosen't cost that much. You could have one presenter to do 4 hrs of 'spin style' links in one hour.

They only repeat their current affairs shows at off peak houes to make up for that silly BAI minimum amount of airtime given over to News & Current Affairs requirement of an FM licence.

Wall to wall music is also far more preferable than "fake live" voicetracking IMO.

They'd still have to pay someone to be there to do the desk for news bulletins so that would just be the same as paying someone, maybe not as much but you catch my drift.

Contrary to popular belief, there is no such thing as a dance quota or even a dance licence. Spin can play whatever music they like to play once it's aimed at a youth audience. They may choose to have a few minority or niche shows in some genres but it's not an obligation for them as part of their licence requirement. The closest they come to being obliged to play shows is in their proposing and the BAI approving any of their schedule changes from time to time.

I presumed that every station had to have a certain number of specialist show hours per day.
If this is not the case, it is ridiculous, as is the obligation for music stations like SPIN to have talk shows. Honestly, there is no place for a daily two-hour talk show on a music-led, youth-orientated station. A 15-minute news show, like Newsbeat on Radio 1, would be preferable to SPIN presumably sacrificing listeners while The SPIN is on.

I know you're going to pull me up on the whole 15-34 year olds saga, but in reality most (and I don't use that word too strongly) younger/youth would be in school at this time. As for the 18/19-34 bracket i'm not sure. I only just fall into that bracket and personally am not a listener of the SPIN but each to his/her own.

I don't listen to the SPIN either but it wouldn't be part of the schedule if it wasn't for the BAI rule. I suppose it is on at the best time considering most people would probably be at school or work between 12.45 and 2.45

Oh sorry didn't read properly, yes of course it is a BAI rule they must have a minimum section for talk each day. I also thought it was the same for some Irish music and talking as gaeilge!

Strangely, this rule only applies at weekends on stations but there shouldn't be an Irish requirement at all IMO

Club Educate is still there every Saturday but Dirty Disco is gone. The show on Cool FM is 'Club Educate Global', a weekly syndicated show.
