l have booked a return flight to Edinburgh with Aer Lingus online.

Its my first time ever booking a flight online so lv no idea what to print off!

Iv heard about online checking in 30hrs before the flight, what is the process? Does it save time at the airport & prevent queing for hours?

Haven't been to an airport in years so not very familiar with the whole process!

Any tips, hints or other stuff l need to know??

You just print off your ticket. when you check in x amount of hours before arriving at airport.

Because l would like another few answers, and maybe some tips. l am not familiar with online booking & airports etc, so no harm in trying to obtain as much info as l can.

By posting another thread, other people might see it on the home page, who might not ever look at the Aviation & Aircraft section, & offer some help. l am not the only person on this who have done the same.

This thread is not about posting 2 threads about the same thing, it is about online booking with Aer Lingus so if you don't mind could you please stop changing the topic on my thread. lts starting to piss me off.

What kind if tips are u looking for. From what I remember the aer Lingus check in system is straight forward. Same as Ryanair. When u check in u have the option to print at home. Or from what I remember u can get a print off at the desk. But they will know if u have already printed off ur ticket. There's not a whole lot to print off it should give u the option of just the boarding pass and nothing else.

There really are no tips to the boarding pass. It's nothing rocket science unless suddenly they have changed everything so much all of a sudden.
But u login follow on screen print x amount of hours before, pack, go to airport, hand in bag and ticket and all should be good. The only tip I can think of is the one to give to the taxi driver if u get a taxi.

If you post another post in an existing thread, it brings it back to the front page. Posting another thread is pointless, divides the discussion and generally makes it harder to use the forum for everyone.

Don't, retort, report :pac: I'm sorry I just love that new phrase

You shouldn't have asked again but I'll say anyway ;) You can check in online like a month before hand but pay for seats. Or you can check in 30 hours before and choose seats for free. then this is done you can
    1. Print with printer
    2. Collect at a fastpass machine
I always use the fastpass machine, you type in your number or scan your passport and it prints a nice small boarding card, nicer than your printer. Your seat mumber is on it.

Finally you can also queue and desk check in, or fastpass check in for no charge, but won't get a seat map at a desk.

OP.....the process ain't rocket science. Print off your boarding pass.....it will be coded....Scan it at the airport....there'll be ground staff there to help you if your with AL.

Enjoy your trip to Scotland and no shooting grouse now!:)

You say its years since you were on an aircraft.......can I assume you previously booked in a travel agent, arrived at the airport to join the Check-in queue, got handed a boarding card, gone through security and gone to the boarding gate?

The process is the exact same except that they is less interaction with actual staff. Lets go through the steps carefully. (Sorry for sounding condescending,I am assuming that you are posting here as you are worried)

-You have already self-booked your ticket:
Now you can either print your own boarding card at home 24-30 hours before departure, or use the self service machine at the airport, or join the check-in queue (if you have bags), [Maybe we could skip the self check-in bag drop option for the moment]

-So now you are at the airport and in possession of a boarding card, you then go through security as has always been the way.. Made sure you have no liquids/gels in your hand luggage and make sure your hand luggage is within the limits set by the airline (1 item of cabin baggage plus 1 briefcase/laptop/satchel/handbag)

-Once through security look for the screen which tells you your gate number. You will then find yourself in the shopping mall that is Terminal 2 at Dublin. Keep in mind from security it will take up to 20 mins to get to your gate (that's before going into any shops/cafes) and they close the gate 10 mins before departure. So if you find yourself through security at 40 minutes before departure then you know you have maximum 15 minutes to loiter/eat/shop/browse.

-Your flight number will be displayed on the TV screen at the boarding gate. Once you reach your assigned gate just wait until they call your seat row or Zone. (Aer Lingus assign seats to certain zones which are called separately to keep boarding efficient.)

-Once onboard sit down and enjoy the flight.

Please be aware that EI operate no free service on their European flights. They have a menu with various hot/cold food, snacks, drinks for sale. Eg. Tea and a sandwich is approx E7 euro.
