    HI Guys,

can anybody advise some good garage in north Dublin for wheel alignment.
I have heard there is some good and cheap service in Swords near PC word. I was told that they ask 35 for 4 wheels alignment. Does anybody know where it is. Or can you recommend any other good garages nearby. Thank you very much. Regards

I actually find atlas in Swords decent to deal with and not too expensive.

You might be thinking of the guys in feltrim, think it's malahide tyres they are called.

Atlas are about 50e to do four wheel alignment.

Any idea what type of equipment they use? I believe there is a huge difference between laser/infared etc.

    No idea to be honest.

I was just happy with the job, they've done a few small bits for me, and always found them decent to deal with

Looked it up website says laser

They use the Hoffman HD imaging wheel aligner, like most of the newer Atlas's;)

OP FWIW - regardless of the equipment they have, it'll be only as good as the mechanic/technician using the machine. I have plenty of experience of getting alignments done and I can assure you with the same equipment, different people have had different successes.

I'm closer to Drumcondra... and could only recommend there :D

Because alignment is not generic to every car. The type of car you have will determine what needs to be done and how much it is likely to cost.

Oh I see, do you know how much its for my car? Thanx

HI sparrowcar, how much did you pay. I have to first change the track rod end and rear suspension shock absorber. As a student I dont have extra money in my pocket - that is the reason I am asking for the price because it is gonna cost me around 200 and every little helps. thanx

€75 for balancing and wheel alignment.

i got the rod ends changed on the missus' yoke a year and a half ago n never got it tracked. i dont see any difference n the tyres are definitely wearing evenly. on a 00 polo is it necessary? save yer money n go on the beer!

It would be nothing but utter blind luck if the tie rod ends went on and the tracking was still reasonably OK.

Well I dont know much about car, but I did not pass NCT test on Saturday because of unbalanced rear suspension and worn track rod ends.
As far as I remember that If you change your track rod ends you should also do alignment. I could be wrong. Any other ideas? Is it necessary?

In theory if you screw it off x amount of turns and screw it back on the same amount your tracking shouldn't change. It deosn't always work out that way... A new one won't be worn, the parts can vary, mechanics can forget. It's good to get your tracking done every so often for tyres and fuel economy. Car will feel nicer to drive too. Worth the money in the long run.

Hi, thanx for your advice. Well I will be doing it myself. Even thought, I have never done it before, I think it can't that complicated. However, 75 euro sounds little bit too much.

Not wishing to sound provocative but that smacks of someone who knows the cost of everything and the value of nothing.

He's a student sham, 75 quid could be his food for two weeks. Your being very harsh.

With respect, messing around with tracking and steering components which,by his own admission is something he knows nothing about, is not a particularly smart thing to do. By all means save up the €75 or whatever it takes to get it done a bit cheaper elsewhere. But these things do have to be done properly and by someone who is COMPETENT to do it.

No definitely not something you should just mess about with and probably shouldn't be your first time using a spanner either.

I don't think it's something he know's nothing about. He only said he hadn't done it before. Like any job if he educates himself on how to do it properly, carries it out methodically, and gets it checked over by the mechanic doing the alignment it should be grand.

Well my friend. Dont worry about me. I asked and I said thank you. I had 2 cars before this one and I did everything by myself. At least what I could. I am not that stupid. However, I have never chenged track rod ends and rear shock absorbers before. But as I said - it is very easy. Dont need to pay mechanic 150 extra for the job I can do myself. And as for money, yes 75 is too much when there are garages who do it for 40. I did not ask about how you feel about it, I did ask for advice, and if you have some spare money I can give you my bank account details and you can send some, so I can do get it done for 75 instead of 40. However, thank you very much for your previous comments. Regards.

The €75 mentioned was the price for full 4 wheel alignment and 4 wheel balancing on a Subaru Forester. Basic front wheel toe adjustment for your Polo would be around the €40 mark or €50 if you also needed/wanted the front camber adjusted.
