Satellite cabling issue

    Hi

I am trying to connect a satellite dish to an old SKY box through existing cabling in my house. The existing cabling was used previously
to connect TVs to UPC via a junction box at the external wall in our house.

My house is cabled with a number of UPC sockets internally. I have identified which cable goes to my sitting room as it is currently
connected to a feed from UPC. At the junction box outside the house I have disconnected the UPC feed and connected it to a cable coming down from
the satellite dish. I used an f-type (female) connector to join the 2 cables at the junction box. However the SKY box says that there is no signal from
    the satellite dish.

I have checked the cable coming from the dish to make sure that it is actually connected by patching to another freesat box in another room and it works
fine. I am assuming that I have a problem with either the f connector, UPC socket not working with satellite or something else.

    Can someone please help me?

My guess would be the socket.

Try running the cable direct to the box I.E. by-pass the socket.
Also, try to connect the box in a different room,,just to rule out a problem with the box itself.

    Thanks.

I have swapped the box with a freesat box in another room and it works fine there.

I might try another room or if that fails perhaps a trip to b@q for an f connector wall plate.

    Thanks for your help.

Keep away from B&Q all there tv stuff are overpriced and usualy badly mad, simply remove the wall socket and pop out the centre circuit board and extend the cable with 2 f connectors and a f-barrel joiner.

Thanks steveon and Navarre. I will give this a go. I take your point about b&q.
