Looking for an AEG under ~€250

I'm getting into airsoft and I have been checking out many websites.

I have been looking at the King Arms Colt M4A1, ICS MP5A5, JG G36c and the CA M15A4, seems most of these are around the €200 mark. Reviews of these from various websites seem to be largely positive but has anyone here had personal experience with them or have any other suggestions? The more metal the better for the weight, but plastic body is fine too if it's high quality stuff. Under €200 would be even better if it has good out of box performance and reliability.

I'd prefer something with a shortish barrel (14.5" or less) for convenience of transportation and carrying if it's an AR.

I'd rather just order online from an Irish company for delivery speed and convenience, but ordering from the UK would be acceptable as well. I'm in Galway so there aren't a lot of stores to walk into and check, and given my inexperience with brands I'd rather get neutral opinions here than someone wanting to sell something.

Here's a link to some guns that are within your budget, you'll find a few here within the €200-€250 mark

G&G are a very good make and make some good budget guns, The Raider for example, a real good gun for someone starting out.

From personal experience I would recommend the King Arms Colt M4A1, it has a Metal body and the quality of King Arms externals is first class and there internals are very good out of the box
The availability of spares and accessories is vast

The ICS MP5A5 has an ABS body with good internals but some of the parts are ICS specific and can be hard to get

The JG G36c has an ABS body with good internals and rarely give much trouble and spares are easy to get

The CA M15A4 is available in a ProLine Metal body and a SportsLine ABS body version
Classic Army Proline AEGs are among the best there are but their Sportsline range has very poor internals and I would not recommend them to any one unless you are willing to do some work on the gearbox
If you are willing to do the necessary work on the gearbox then you can turn it into a reliable AEG

All the above is from my own personal experience of both using and working on all of the above AEGs
I would suggest that before you buy that you a least get to handle some if not all of the above as what looks good may not feel good to you when you get your hands on it

    +1 on that.

The quality is top-notch, externally and internally. Motor is very fast for a standard airsoft rifle (Faster than a JG or DBoys). Some parts are steel (Flash hider, receiver pins, etc...) and some are aluminum (Receiver, outer barrel, etc...) and they have an excellent finish.

The one reason I bought mine was for the real steel trademarks engraved into the receiver, instead of printed on:

Great price for a superb airsoft rifle. I'd recommend it.

RE: Mp5 - The ICS mp5 comes in metal or plastic variants, I had one and they are very lightweight aluminium and work brilliantly as a skirmishing aeg. The hop is actually very good on them too, but the adjustment lever should be cut shorter by the end user to prevent snags.
They do lack an opening ejection port as some other mp5s feature but it is a top gun for actual skirmishing, you can get a bit sick of steel bodied guns that weigh a lot so I enjoyed the ICS while I had it.

After the input here I went for the King Arms M4A1 (metal), and it's pretty damn good.

One thing though, it seems that a lack of lubrication is causing it to jam. If I add a drop of 3-in-1 oil into where the BBs are fed in from the magazine it's grand for about 40 shots or so before it starts again (I'm also winding the magazine). Is this simply due to the gearbox and such having to wear in or should I be using something else?

First off never ever use 3 in 1 oil on any part of your M4 and least of all in the hop-up unit which is were the BBs go
if any part of the AEG needs oiling then Only use SILICONE oil

Have you set the hop-up, its the dial inside the dust cover and is increased by turning clockwise and decreased by turning anti-clockwise
If you increase it too much it will prevent the BBs from shooting properly
so first think to do is turn it al the way off and see if it shoots properly all the time you will need to wind the may every 20+ shots

Gotcha. I cleaned the gunk out of the barrel and hop-up unit with a small piece cloth through the loop on the cleaning rod, then with a cloth sprayed with silicone oil, then a dry cloth again. Firing just fine now. I'll just stick with the silicone oil so.
