Was Petraeus forced to resign

US officials insisted the CIA's handling of the Benghazi incident had nothing to do with Petraeus' decision to resign.
Testify on Capitol Hill Petraeus recently traveled to Libya and the Middle East, and had been scheduled to testify about the Benghazi events next week behind closed doors to the House and Senate intelligence committees. Now, he will not give that testimony

I didnt see why he wont testify.Im guessing its got something to do with the resignation.
Makes me suspicious of that Lybia incident now.

The sex thing could be as you say also.
But it kind of sounds to me like they needed a solution and public scandal was one of the few ways out of a possible dodgy court/comitee hearing...maybe.

hang on a minute, wasn't he the general in charge of the iraq and afghanistan wars, how long has he been head of the cia

Hey, i didn't see this thread but I'm aware Hillary Clinton will not testify either which seems rather peculiar.

There's a video called 'The Hate Mongers Among Us' which is based on article by Jeff Gates (Ex-CIA)

In the video (ca. 2010), Gates claims the Israeli lobbies were angered by comments about how Arab perception of US favoritism towards Israel damage US interests in the Middle East.

    The exact quote was...

The enduring hostilities between Israel and some of its neighbors present distinct challenges to our ability to advance our interests in the AOR [Area of Operations].

Israeli-Palestinian tensions often flare into violence and large-scale armed confrontations. The conflict foments anti-American sentiment, due to a perception of U.S. favoritism for Israel.

Arab anger over the Palestinian question limits the strength and depth of U.S. partnerships with governments and peoples in the AOR and weakens the legitimacy of moderate regimes in the Arab world.

Meanwhile, al-Qaeda and other militant groups exploit that anger to mobilize support. The conflict also gives Iran influence in the Arab world through its clients, Lebanese Hizballah and Hamas.

Israel weren't exactly fans of Petraeus after this.

    Since about September, 2011.
    And yeah, it's that Petraeus.

Honestly just check pics of his wife and the biographer if you want to see why he did it.

Just read this morning that the FBI have raided the home of the lover now. It's an odd story.

You didn't know this? And yet you come on here frequently and ridicule those of us who know what's going on or tell us we don't know what we're talking about??

This article by Justin Raimondo certainly explains why there's a lot more to the whole scandal than just Petraeus shagging his biographer:

Haven't read the Information Clearing House article yet. One theory i saw somewhere is that the Benghazi incident was possibly staged and designed to defeat Obama. That Petraeus was heavily implicated and is now paying the price.

Probably closer to the truth is that it's generally considered bad form to have the guy in charge of the CIA open to potential blackmail. Seeing as, y'know, he was after having an affair and his jilted ex now seemed to have difficulty letting go.

There's also some signs that Petraeus may have let sensitive information slip, or that there was a more general breach of security - Broadwell sent several "anonymous" emails to Kelley that implied that Broadwell knew of high level comings and goings of military officials and events not on the public schedule.
Which is why the investigation began in the first place.

There was an interview with Marc Faber recently where he predicted Obama wouldn't finish his 4 years due to "so many scandals"

"I doubt [Obama] will stay at the presidency for another four years. I think there will be so many scandals"

Faber made the comment one day before Petraeus announced his resignation to the public.

We will see if Faber is right; just curious to know what these scandals are about.

If Petraeus was trying to sabotage re election of Obama, wouldn't Hillary Clinton need to be an accomplice?

Somehow I doubt that a Swiss Investor, no matter how self assured he is, has access to the kind of information that'd make that prediction anything more than wishful thinking on his part.

Also, given his "bear" stance on the market, he's probably imagining more "scandals" like solyndra, as opposed to actual legitimate scandals.

Personally I am delighted a Neocon war criminal has been terminated. Even better is that the head of the CIA was a victim of the Big Brother society :pac:

Why do you think he's a neocon?

Excuse my laziness but there is some good reading here http://dissenter.firedoglake.com/2011/07/31/the-forgotten-history-of-david-petraeus/

Now I remember John Warmonger Bolton endorsing Petraeus so i'd have to agree just based on Bolton's endorsement, Petraeus is a neocon.
    I'll read article also, thanks.
