Mauritius: hotels with 3 kids

We are trying to book 10 days in Mauritius for January with our 3 kids under 6. While we can get reasonable prices for double/superior rooms for 2 adults and 2 kids, three different hotels have refused us adding a baby in the room. They all want to upgrade us to family apartments for approx €3000 extra!

Does anybody have experience with this problem? Is there a way around it? Our neighbor says she has always declared 2 kids and arrived with 3, but the tour operator thinks we will be charged the difference at the hotel if we do this.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

    Hi Minnow,

An advise would be to avoid try tricking them because this could turn out to be very costly. The best is to look for kids friendly hotels, the have special family packages and arrangements can be made to accomodate the kids in the same room of the parents. Take a look at the hotel Heritage Le Telfair in Mauritius and their kids packages or veranda palmar beach hotel mauritius.

    hope this have helped!

Morning Minnow, your tour operator is correct. I'm familiar with the accommodation here for families. The hotel do not want to upgrade you, they are asking you to book reasonable accommodation for your party of 5. In Mauritius, that is not a double room with a rollaway/sofa bed and a cot. I have never seen a double/double with a cot with for 5. Their max, like many places in Ireland, is 4 in a double room. Mauritius is really family friendly, there is an abundance of accommodation to suit your group but obviously the price goes up or the hotel * goes down. I have not seen a hotel in Mauritius with 5 in one bedroom. All hotels, wherever they may be, have a room max and fire policies. It makes no sense to try to wing it. It's a significant journey, and you will probably end up discussing this til the ends of the earth, then arrive at reception exhausted, sweating it and arguing over it with staff. It takes the shine off it. You cannot keep a low profile with a family/baby in these hotels, and almost certainly not for 10 days, knowing their guests is what they pride themselves on. You'll be tiptoeing around. This is not the answer you want to hear but it's the only one I know! Bottom line = not worth it. Your tour operator should be able to find you nice reasonably priced accommodation and there are lots of on-line discussion forums/travel advice for families. Enjoy!

    Hi Truman,
we have no intention of turning up with an extra kid unannounced. I was asking whether anyone has experience in Mauritius with travelling with 3 kids. We are not talking about squeezing 5 into one bedroom - the superior rooms involved are laid out for 4, and a cot takes precious little room. The family apartment is only 10m2 more, so not a big difference (apart from the extra Eur 300 per night).

From SunnyB: "advise would be to avoid try tricking them because this could turn out to be very costly". You wrote that your neighbour always does it, so to people reading that (i.e the 2 people who took the time to reply, one of whom just signed up to help you) that is what it sounds like - that you were up in the air about doing it. I answered your question, based on experience like you asked, and I said it's not the answer you wanted and I guess it's not. I also gave some advice where to get info. I'm not sure why your reply sounded a tad sharp.
