Should I go to Australia? A couple of my friends are going at the end of December and I am thinking of going also. I am a 30 yr old almost qualified accountant and this is prob my last chance to go. The thing is that I would be leaving a job here to go and am wondering what peoples thoughts are on it and the ease of getting a good job over there or should I stay. Cheers for help!

Firstly, Hello and Welcome to boards :)

What does your family say about this? How far away are you from qualifying as an accountant & would you consider qualifying first and then travelling over?

If you would like this thread moved to the Australian forum to get a better insight maybe into the job situation in Australia from that forum, just let me know.

It's a huge decision to make - is their another reason behind this decision at this point in time maybe?

    Thanks,

If I were you with a hankering to go for the experience, Id complete the accounting qualification as soon as possible and then go. It would be madness to throw this away on itchy feet if you're that close to it. The job prospects there and beyond would be so much better with it and when you decide to return.

Make sure to have a look at the cost of living over there aswell.
Assuming your single and going with no debts, ties etc you'll be grand.

Rent in Auz is crazy. But saying all that you only live once.

    Go for it!

Cheers for replies its a tough decision to make leaving a job here ideally it would be better going fully qualified but I can also finish off my final couple of exams over there. 50/50 for staying and going from people I ask I suppose there's good and bad for going and staying.

finish your exams, go to Asia instead, far more interesting, go to the expensive countries for a week or two and then se asia/china etc for a good 6 months or so, change your life forever, 15k would easily do you for the year!! thats if you have 15k :)

Finish your exams..... Oz will always be there it's not all surfing and sunshine!! Good quality paying jobs are tough enough to get over, they are there but employers are getting picky so when you qualify take a sabbatical(if you can from work) and head over for 6months+ and see how it goes, don't forget oz isn't for everybody and you could come back after a week or so and you could end up staying indefinite!
Best of luck which ever you decide .... Another thing is there big demand for accountants at the moment in this country? Will you be able to walk back into a full time position when you come back!!!!

I would echo the "finish your qualification" sentiment. Also, if I were you I would REALLY wait and see how your friends get on in December/January: regardless of Irish people love for moaning (the recession, the taxes and blah blah blah), Ireland still has some of the highest salaries and lowest income taxes of the advanced economies; If you have a decent job here, it's not guaranteed that moving to Australia would bring an improvement.

Of course if you just want to move for cultural reasons or just to broaden your horizons and get some fresh air, it's a different story :)
