I presume by coil-overs you mean a coil pack? The main difference between te 2 is with genuine parts these are usually made out house for the car manufactures by a number of companies, ie VAG would use LUK, SACHS and Valeo as their clutch suppliers, these would each sell these parts to after-market. Then you would have companies who manufacture parts but are not made or approved to OE spec.

If you could be more specific on what your looking for, I might be able to point you in the right direction.

sorry when i say coilovers i mean as in aftermarket shocks and springs which are fully adjustable compared to standard ones. but this be only a small section of the project.

the project will basically be about the difference(or is there one) in oem parts and the ones you buy in the motorfactors for example or parts made by different companies. Counterfeit parts will be another area that i am looking into. i will also be looking into how they affect new car warranties, warranties on the parts themselves. could having these parts effect your insurance, for example having suspension modifications (which it does ha). is there a standard that parts have to reach. is there any company testing car parts except the companies developing them.

if there are any other areas that people think that would think be worth while looking into id love to hear.

sorry if what i say makes little since or hard to understand its just im noy great at using forums ha

What type of degree is it? Arre you looking at how manufacturing methods affect service life, etc, or is purely a business related project where you're looking at whether a certain product is worth the money?

Ok, any modifcation on a car will effect the warranty and also any possible insurance claims. Motor Factors can supply both type of parts, OE quaility and Modifcation parts. There is certainly counterfeit parts out there, Valeo recently issued a warning on the clutch conversation kits for the 1.6TDi Golfs. Remember Counterfeit part are companies making and selling substandard parts and badgeing them as OE quality. You then have other manufactures who make parts, brand them as there own but are not OE approved / Quality. You would have 3 different areas,

    1. OEM quality / supplied parts, These would be built and supplied to the car manufactures and also sold through motor factors online etc.

    2. Non OEM quality parts, branded as their own make, usually cheaper than OE, tend not to last as long as OE parts. Warranties would not be covered with these parts.

    3. Counterfeit parts, made cheaply, branded and OEM quality, but illegal. These would be like the Ray Bans, Oakley glasses you get for €10 in the market.

If you looking for more information on OE parts, search the importers, their websites usually have links to the OE manufactures sites.

    Hope this helps.

its for a level 7 degree in automobile engineering and transport management. It be the service life of the product i be really looking into to see is there a difference in buying for example a bushing from a dealership/ car manufactures or are the spurious version just as good as there product even though you pay less for it.
