Can't pick up any channels :(

Hi I bought a saorview set top box and an indoor aerial and I connected them to my TV.

I tried doing an automatic search using the set top box for channels but it's not finding any channels at all, 0% signal

I live in Sandyford Industrial Estate, Dublin 18.

Any idea what could be wrong?

The indoor aerial may not be picking up a signal where it's located. You could try placing it on a south/south-west facing window pointing at the Dublin Mts and try a retune again. You might have to go the outdoor or attic aerial route if that doesn't work.

You could also try a manual scan of UHF Ch 30 (Three Rock).

I assume you're in a relatively modern apartment in which case the windows could be covered with one of those materials which keeps heat in but is also very effective at blocking certain frequencies. There certainly shouldn't be a problem with distance, Three Rock is no more than 4 kms away, do you have a view to the SW and can you see the masts on Three Rock? If you're on the wrong side of the building you may not pick up anything with an indoor aerial.

before did you ever try the ariel..... for the ariel to work you need tp have able to pick up TV3 petty gd...
if not you may need extenal ariel...

To the OP. The TV network is designed for outdoor aerials. That is what you should use. Indoor aerials only work in about 10% of cases, obviously you are one of the remaining 90%.

Incidentally you did connect your aerial to the Saorview box, not the TV didn't you?

It seems pretty strange alright to get 0% signal even with an indoor aerial. I live not too far away from Sandyford and was able to get around 60 -70% signal with a indoor digital aerial.

There is NO SUCH THING as a digital aerial, indoor or otherwise.

If there is no signal to get it is not strange to get 0%.

It might not be if the volume like button wasn't turned on/up!

The OP has not stated what type of TV they have which may also be an issue.

Winston, your 10% is way off. If everyone positioned their indoor aerials correctly there would be no issues. As the chap is in Sandyford an indoor aerial will be sufficient once positioned correctly. By the window cill is normally a good position.

Turn the volume like dial on the amplified aerial on. Also that needs to be connected to a mains supply.
