I recently got rust repaired on my car and since I got it back I've noticed that the drivers seat belt was damaged. The damage looks similiar to that pictured below and I'm just wondering could it fail an NCT over that again? I don't want to go back to the garage as it's not too bad.

    Yes, that would fail.

Thanks Pete. Any idea how much it is for a repair or new belt?

Get second hand one. Will cost you (depends on what car) 10-30 euro.

    It's a 2000 ford fiesta.

Will be cheap. I'm more than sure, other ford and other year will fit also. :)

Fitting and getting it set to the right tension is fairly labour intensive, a second hand part should be inexpensive, but it's a bit of work to get it fitted

If 2nd hand one can be wound and unwound without problems, there is no reason to do anything with tension.

Fitting has to be done anyway, no matter if new or 2nd hand one is used.

I've refitted an odd seat belt reel over the years and it was always a simple matter of removing a few bits of trim, one bolt at the reel and another at the top guide on the door pillar, swap in the new unit and refit the bolts & trim. Should be a fairly straight forward job.

    That's exactly what I'm talking about. ^^

    Thanks :)

I can't remember what car it was that I'd seatbelt trouble on, and the mechanic fixing it was not happy about having to do it. Kept muttering about having to make sure it was properly tightened.

ye i done a couple,as already said its only a few bolts, done know what all the tensioning is about????? if your getting a second hand one check it carefully as belts tend to get worn in the same place in every car, when there all coiled up they can be quite tricky to extend, unless you hold it perfectly straight in your hand or bolt on to the car first it wont unwind.

Note! most of the bolts used for securing seatbelts use a dry thread lock, so advisable to threadlock the bolts when you fit a new one

    Agree.

    I use this one:

It'll last for life if used by average person (like looking after own car, household purposes, etc). Have that one roughly 15 years and more than half of the bottle left. :D
