AVG update = laptop black screen

I have AVG on my laptop & the latest update has caused it to shut down & when i turn it on its a black screen. Any ideas of how to fix this ?

Can you start the laptop in safe mode?(hold down F8 on startup)

No, its totally blank no matter what angle you look at it. I re seated the ram, graphics card, hdd, disk drive. Im starting to think its the inverter but have been reading about this happening to other users of AVG after updates.
