String Quartet to play Rock Music?

The other half thinks she's going to be walking down the aisle to a CD but I'm looking to surprise her by getting a String Duo/Trio/Quartet to play her entrance and our exit songs from the ceremony and then do a set at our drinks reception.

The twist is, I'm looking for string musicians who'll do rock/indie music: Metallica, Radiohead, Nightwish, Iron & Wine, Postal Service, Bob Dylan, Journey, Thin Lizzy, Coldplay, Pink Floyd, Killers, Elbow etc.

Anyone got any recommendations? The wedding is in Wexford in February.

Any idea of what I can expect to pay would be great too!

We've booked The Manning Sister's to play contemporary music at our drinks reception in April. They are a sting trio from Dundalk area. Heard them play at a wedding fair and are great. Think they are E650 to play both church and drinks reception.

Bohemian strings did a mates wedding. So cool to hear elbow and radiohead in a church.

Astral Strings did my wedding, they were amazing and were more than delighted to play pieces that weren't traditional!

I'd emailed Bohemian strings already for a quote. Will definitely be including Elbow and Radiohead, though in a drinks reception rather than a church (since we're going for a civil ceremony).

Astral Strings? Our first dance song is a Van Morisson song: might be something there!

The Miller String Quartet did my wedding. I walked up the aisle to led zeppelin and they did an amazing job. They also did 2 hours for the drinks reception. I'd highly recommend them :)

+1 for Astral String Quartet. We had them for our wedding in September - they can play pretty much anything and were very professional. They even played the Sesame St theme song for us :D

Have emailed them all for quotes, some huge disparity on the prices I'm getting back though I suspect travel has a part to play in that.

A lot of them are fairly slow in responding to requests for quotes though!

We had bohemian strings, played foo fighters, muse and all our other non traditional music. They actually learned everlong for our ceremony, they were brilliant and very reasonable.

Based on their repertoire, I'm leaning towards Bohemian Strings (though I've yet to hear back from Astral Strings or a few other quartets) but so far, they're the most expensive quote I've received. :(

We used them too for our wedding in June and would be happy to recommend them.

So glad I stumbled acroos this thread. We would love this kinda thing at our wedding, if we can fit it in the budget. We were gonna go with a cd of Vitamin String Quartet songs and still might.

We had behemian strings too and they were simply awesome. We had them play lots of movie music prior to the ceremony and modern stuff too. Couldn't recommend them enough.

I had been leaning towards Bohemian Strings despite their quote being the highest I got but I actually booked Here Come the Trio instead last night after one of their members PM'd me here on Boards :)

She was so keen to get to play some Queens of the Stone Age at a wedding that they're going to learn quite a few pieces for me that weren't on anyone else's repertoire and, being a trio and less established are rather more reasonable price-wise.

Hmm, I've also been in contact with Here Comes The Trio, and I also want some rock/unusual songs played, so would you recommend booking them yeah? I know you haven't had them play for you yet obviously! But you're confident to go with them?

    Delighted I found this thread.

Does anyone have any other recommendations in case no one mentioned here is available/affordable?

The wedding was Saturday and Here Comes the Trio were one of the highlights of the day for me, my wife and we got loads of comments on them from our guests (one or two of whom are planning to book them for their own weddings now).

Will be writing a full recommendation for them on their site and when I get a chance I'll post a full wedding report of how our day went but remembered you were asking about the trio so said I'd post up to tell you how good they were! :)
