Picture editing software for Mac

    Hi all,

I'm a newbie photographer looking for some advice re picture editing. I have a project in mind that involves taking quite a number of portrait shots on a contrast background and then somehow using picture editing software to superimpose the portrait characters onto one large print/photo as a crowd of people.

I'm going to need to change the scale of the shots, to a smaller size i imagine, and then figure out how to paste/arrange them into one single image which i'm hoping to have printed into an A3 or larger size in black and white.

I have Gimp, free picture editing software on my Mac, i'm wondering if anyone who has used this software knows if it's capable of doing this kind of superimposing, and if not could you recommend some software that is capable of doing it?
Will I have to buy Aperture software or is this even the right type of software for what i'm trying to do?

Anyone with any experience doing something like this or any info on where to look for help, please feel free to respond or pm me.

    Thanks for your time!

I'm not an expert but I have used both Aperture and Photoshop and i find Aperture better for basic editing. For what you are planning you may need Photoshop.

If you don’t want to stump up the full amount for photoshop you can rent it from Adobe on either a month by month or annual subscription.

Gimp should be able to do the job for you.
