    Hi Guys,

I had a little situation on petrol station today. Lady driver hit my car when I was tanking it. The doors are buckled.

She admitted it is her fault and we exchange the details but my tax is overdue.

Should I be worried? Can it be a reason for her insurance company not to pay me? Can somebody advice me on this matter? What will happen if I will go to report the accident to Garda station?

    I need advice badly.

    Thanks,
    James

Completely irrelevant to the insurance claim.

There shouldn't be any issues, but I suppose the Garda could fine you, but they won't

Thanks Dylan for fast replay. That sounds good, but if anybody have something to add would be great.

    Thanks,
    James

You should be ok. I had a car stolen with no tax for two weeks and was paid out.

    Something to add....

    Don't do it again :D
Don't pay insurance by direct debit.

Best of luck and I hope it all gets sorted quickly.

They reduce your payout based on how much (percentage wise) of your policy you have paid.
At least in the case of Quill Direct.

I learned that one the hard way.

Complete rubbish. You are either insured or you're not, you can't be half insured. If you only pay half the premium, they will cancel the policy after six months but on any given day you are either insured or you are not.

OP, car tax has nothing to do with insurance and if you report an accident after the event, the Gardai will probably ask you to produce licence and insurance (so bring them with you if you do decide to report it) but they will not ask about the tax disc.

Sorry Im incorrect. But I haven't slept properly in two weeks so let me off on this one... (14 hour days cause mistakes )

Settlement cheque you received would be less your policy excess and your outstanding premium amount if applicable I am out of the office at present but I will review the file and revert to you with breakdown of costs later today

    That's understandable.
I think most - if not all - policies have a clause stating that in case of a claim all premium which was not paid yet becomes due straight away.

off topic, but it looks daft how people now "revert" on emails instead of reply
