1D MKIII? I think you should read page page 81 to 85 of your camera's manual because you may not be doing something right with your focusing.

If you don't have it, pm me because I'm not sure if you are allowed to link manual on this site

Here is a copy of something I posted recently when someone said they were thinking of buy a MK111.

The early MKlll had a lot of problems with focusing at speed and the only way to test it is at speed. A list serial numbers between 501001 and 546561 were said to have the problem but I have been told some of the cameras after the later numbers had the problem too. There was a fix and again I know of some of these that still had the problem after the fix. In fact A friend of mine got the fix done but still had the problem and they gave him a new one. These later one had a blue dot on the box and became know as a 1DMKlll Blue Dot.

I don't live in that area but could it be something as simple as your focus mode?

Many cameras also support an autofocus mode which continually adjust the focus distance for moving subjects. Canon cameras refer to this as "AI Servo" focusing. It works by predicting where the subject will be slightly in the future, based on estimates of the subject velocity from previous focus distances. The camera then focuses at this predicted distance in advance to account for the shutter lag (the delay between pressing the shutter button and the start of the exposure). This greatly increases the probability of correct focus for moving subjects.

I presume you're shooting in burst mode and have focus area set to center?

I have a 1D MKIII and have never had focus issues with it.

Unfortunately I am not near the OP either.

Just make sure it's set to AI Focus, centre focus point only and see how that goes.
