Unlocking iphone from O2

I am changing from O2 to emobile this evening on an iphone? I have a code to unlock from O2 but no blank sim card. At what stage can I do this unlocking? i.e. Can I do it AFTER moving over from O2 to emobile?

You don't get unlock codes from operators for iPhones. If an unlock has been requested, you either need to restore the phone through iTunes, or sometimes just put in the sim card from another operator.
