Leaving Job Bridge early...

Hi, I have been on the scheme for less then 2 months and unfortunately it has been very clear that it is not going to work out. I have already told the host organization this and they have let me go. I am just wondering if social welfare will allow my payments to continue as normal? I am worried that they will give me stick about not staying on for the 9 month period. Anyway if anyone can shed some light on this or has a similar experience, let me know! Cheers :)

Your payment will resume but you should go to the SW office to set that up. You can still take another shot at JobBridge for a shorter period.

What if I start an internship and I realise this placement is not for me, can I do another?
One week’s notice must be given by either party. The HO must logon to their
JobBridge account and enter the early completion (finish date) immediately after early completion date. Individuals may avail of a maximum of 2 JobBridge internships however, the total cumulative time cannot exceed 9 months (39 weeks) over the two year period. The scheme will run from the 1st July 2011 to 30th June 2013. Therefore, if an individual commences on a scheme on the 29th June 2013 for 6 months they will be allowed finish up to the expiry date 28th
    December 2013. http://www.jobbridge.ie/toolkit/faqintern.pdf

Thanks very much for that-hopefully all will be ok and yeah can always do another one-although to be fair a properly paid job would be a much better option! :)

OP I was in the same position a few weeks ago, there's no need to worry. Just go to the SW office ASAP and tell them you have finished. It's a voluntary scheme and you can not be penalized for leaving it, though they will most likely ask why, they did when I was there and I wrote it down for them. The host organization is required to log on to their online system and put in your finishing date.

You can also go on to the jobbridge website and fill out an email form to inform them, however, I did this on the day I quit and they didn't bother to inform my local SW office. So when I went in to the SW office they didn't know anything about it and they did ask for a letter from the host organization stating that I was finished. I told them that since things didn't work out I wasn't comfortable going back to them and asking for them to take the time to type and print a letter. So they gave me a piece of paper and told me to write out why I left the internship on it. I wrote a comprehensive explanation filling front and back, they gave it a quick scan, took it away, came back and told me my payment would change from the bank to the post office the next week and it did.

So if you don't have a letter from the host organization you might want to write one out explaining why you left. While they won't (or shouldn't) 'give you stick', it seems they need to have something in writing to stick in their file, as they're all about paperwork in these offices.

And yes, they did ask me would I consider looking for another internship and like yourself I replied No, I want a proper job, and they said, fair enough.
