    Hi folks,
With the saorview switch, we had to purchase my grandmother a new TV. She finds the new remote awkward to use and cannot remember how to get the camera outside the door working (its via a 'Source' button at the moment, whereas it was AV on her original remote).

We were told if we purchased a modulator it would allow her camera be tuned into a specific channel on the set. I'm not sure which to get or if it makes any difference?

    Was looking at this; http://www.ebay.ie/itm/RF-Modulator-UHF-Channel-21-69-Scart-CCTV-Convert-Aerial-TV-Phono-/251105541540?pt=UK_Sound_Vision_Other&hash=item3a770e7da4#ht_1674wt_1028

There are other Modulators but not sure if they are compatible or not.

Any modulator which can do '6.0 MHz sound', or says System-I or PAL-I would be fully compatible with analogue reception on Irish TVs.

Be warned that whilst with some TVs you can indeed place the modulator on say the TV's channel 9, but on other TVs you would have to switch between an Analogue mode and Digital mode, (the modulator would be analogue mode, Saorview would of course be the digital mode) doing this would be equally as awkward as selecting a Source option, tell us what the TV is?

    Its a NordMende 24" LED/TFT-TV. NM24913LEDM4.

It would be pointless if she would need to switch between analogue and digital alright!

I don't know if this only complicates the plan, but as mentioned elsewhere ,any point in using the modulator in her old VCR,and coming out scart?

She doesn't have or never had a VCR..

you can program the nordmende to show the analogue camera to a specific channel eg 9.
when the modulator is fitted and setup on a spare freguency you will have to select automatic channel scan (retune) and select the (full ) option,ie, there are 3 options on some of the nordmende tv's , digital, analogue or full,
this will reprogram the tv and will store the analogue camera on a spare channel after the radio channels that accompany the saorview tv channels .
once this is done it is simply a matter of going to the channel list option in the menu.this will allow you to name the channel eg camera and allow to move the channel from say 901 to number 9,i hope this helps.

But what about the fear that you might need to switch to Analogue?

We are just looking for something basic - one that allows her to view it on its own channel without switching settings or clicking extra buttons to get to it! :)

Put a mark on the remote control with tippex ?

on some TV's you can change the name displayed for each source

    other options

can you get a camera with a PIR so it uses scart to change over automatically ?

some TV's do PIP , IF you can setup with a single button this might be an option too

Tried marker but it doesn't do anything visually and the button is tiny which is a problem. Could try tippex but the problem is she keeps hold of the button until the channel comes on. She cant do that as the TV is waiting for her to leave go on the selection of 'SCART' on the Source Menu. I have tried and tried to get her to stop but no luck, and at 92, I doubt we will succeed.

We also thought of a Universal Remote with bigger buttons but its just the whole rigmarole of teaching her a new remote when she is just about getting used to the new one!!

No idea to either of those. Its a fairly basic camera.

People are chucking out TVs. Put a dedicated 12" on the camera

Not a bad idea but not sure if it would work as we now have two remotes and she may get mixed up!

Is the modulator idea out so?

No switching to Analogoe or Digital on Nordmende (or Walker) TV's. When you "tune in" your modulator, it'll probably end up at no 901 or something, but these tellies will allow you to allocate whatever number you wish. Analogue and digital channels can be mixed, which can be handy, as in your case.

My neighbour asked me to sort his CC camera and need a modulator so I have order the one above by OP from ebay
This is a chinese build and have 2 pin shaver type plug and a bad adaptor, not even fused or made to BS1363. I cut this plug off and fitted a proper 3 pin BS1363 plug with 3 amp fuse.
The modulater work well and from a wde range of frequency of 50Mhz up to 860 Mhz, Ch.1 to Ch.69. sound also adjustable of 4.5, 5.5, 6.0 & 6.5 Mhz

    more pics
I cut off the 2 pin plug as it was loosely fit into the poor adaptor, unfused, that came with it

I've had one of those modulators mentioned above for about two years now. I would agree that when you get it you should replace the two-pin Europlug with a standard three-pin plug unless you have a fused shaver adaptor handy and lying around (the supplied adaptor is unfused).

Channel raster for the VHF frequencies (01-12) correspond to the OIRT assignments, meaning C01 has a vision frequency of 49.75 MHz, C02 59.25MHz etc with C04 and C05 in the FM radio broadcast band. European Hypercable frequencies are also selectable. The highest frequency range goes up to E71 IIRC, though it is subject to GSM interference. As Souraiu mentioned, the sound offset can be adjusted as well. Output power of the modulated signal is pretty powerful too - it'll travel a fair distance of coax where others might struggle. It can get warm in use, but not too hot to touch - standard ventilation as would be the case for most AV units is grand. Probably the most versatile domestic modulator I've came across - just a pity that it's potential usefulness in exploiting non-standard broadcasting frequencies is around 20 years too late.
