Creaking Noises after new gas installation

    Hi
I recently had gas heating installed after my oil burner packed in.
We got all new radiators put in and a new hotwater cylinder but basically used the existing pipe work. Since we are renovating the house the upstairs laminate flooring has been taken out so we have bare floor boards at the moment.

When the heating comes on there is noises coming from the hot press that were not there before but probably more annoying is that the back bedroom there is a lot of creaking , now I know this is the wood expanding/contracting but it was never like that before when I had the oil heating ( right enough the radiator in that room never got that hot )...

Is it a case i'm going to have to lift the floorboards or do you think once i put a carpet down it will muffle/quieten the noise. If I need to lift the floorboards what do I do ?

The noise is loud enough to wake us up so it does need sorted..

    Appreciate any help ?
    Ed

i would be fairly certain its just the heating settleing and the floors expanding and contracting,

Hi thanks for the reply so should I leave it a few weeks and see what happens before lifting up the boards ?

As copper pipes heat and cool they expand and contract. If the pipes are tight against wood a creaking noise can be made as the pipes move against the wood.
If you can identify where this is happening you can normally slip a piece of insullation tube, or if its too tight a piece of hard plastic, between the pipe and the wood. This usually eliminates the problem.
