i just went and got a renault scenic from a guy.
since i have got it i have noticed a knocking sound from the back when i put my foot on the break.
the noise seems to go round in a circle knocking in a certain spot every time till i release the break. he told me that it was rust on the wheels.

Also i have noticed a knocking sound when going over bumps it knocks in the front.

any ideas what it could be.

possibly a loose exhaust, best to get it on a lift to inspect further.

Perhaps wrong time of year for this theory - but I'll share anyway.

Last winter (or was it the one before!) the bottom two rings of the front coil springs on our Scenic got wedged tight with caked muck/salt/sand and caused a knocking over bumps - even at very low speed. The springs couldn't compress at all. Chopped at it with a screwdriver - cleaned it out - felt like a new car afterwards.

The knocking in the front might be due to perished drop link bushes?

had the car in garage service done on it. it is running a lot better. the exhaust front box needs replacing (does anyone know how much it will cost) so that might be causing the knocking in the front of the car. i steamed washed the car, and the knocking sound when the break pedal was pressed has gone.
just another question can the clutch cable be tightened or not.
