2 year countdown, need to be insured?

Recently got my full A/A1 license so the two year countdown to being able to legally drive an unrestricted bike has started.

Can anyone tell me, do I need to show that I've been insured on a bike for that two year period, i.e. gaining experience the entire time? Or is it simply a time thing? My circumstances are such that I need to sell my bike and am unlikely to own another any time next year. If I came back to biking after the two years, would an insurance company look unfavourably on my lack of continuous active bike ownership?

Its a time thing. No experience necessary.

Remember your no claims bonus will expire after 2 years as well.

Yap cool, thanks. Not too worried about the NCB, only have the 1 year anyway. ;-)

If your not insured within two years of you last insurance you will lose the 1 years NCB. As you said, its only 1 year so you be grand.

I assume you have actually got the pink licence, not just the test pass certificate?
Some people make the mistake of thinking the restriction starts from date you pass the test but the 2 years only starts from the date on your first full licence.
