Dog aggression

Hi folks, really hoping you could help me out here.

I have a 4 year old Alaskan malamute who is a nightmare around other dogs. He is ok with very small dogs but once a medium size dog approaches he goes into attack mode, which can be very scary as he's such a big dog. He has been neutered since about 18 months old.
He has recently started to show us aggression now by showing his teeth however this is partially due to the fact he has a sore paw....but the other night I tried to have a look at it, so I put a muzzle on him, but he really did growl and show his teeth....I will have to bring him to the vet but they will probably have to sedate him before they can even look at it, but he's walking on it fine and jump around with our other dog!
I really do want to tackle this aggression before something serious happens. I am based in Wicklow but really don't mind where I need to travel to once we can tackle his aggression, but I would really like the training to be interactive with other dogs introduced during the training if that's at all possible in the training sessions.

So if anyone could recommend a trainer specifically around aggression from their previous experiences i would really really appreciate it.

    Thanks Dan

Good on you Dan, this is something you're definitely going to need professional help with, from a behavioural specialist, not a trainer. Luckily for you, there is a super behaviourist based in Wicklow, a great aggression specialist who herself studied and trained with some of the best in the trade.

    Good luck :)

Would whole-heartedly second the recommendation of Emmaline. She came to me for a one-to-one training session with my dog-aggressive dog (she brought her own dog with her to work along side him) and it was very worthwhile. She runs classes too. Good luck.

If a dog called Bassbarr Pulling Power appears anywhere in his pedigree, I would also ask the vet to test for epilepsy. It does sound more like a behavioural problem, but there is epilepsy in that line, which has led to aggression in some dogs. Unfortunately mals can be 'difficult' with other dogs, especially of the same gender, hopefully Emmaline will be able to help. :)
