Golf Stats Website

    Hello,

I have been a lurker on this forum for years and have only come out of the shadows as I need help (the usual).

For a college project I created a golf statistics website. It gives you fairly basic stats such as fairways hit, putts per hole etc. If you had the time I would greatly appreciate it if anybody could give me some feedback on the site as I have to write a report about it.

The site (http://www.gimmied.com) requires free registration and login (to relate data input to users). However, if you would just like to have a look at the post-login side you can login with the email: default@defaultdefault.com and password: default.

If you have any feedback please post it here or submit on the website.

    Many thanks,

Well done, nice and clear, easy to use site.
Would it be possible to let each user add in a few questions on their own stats like say, putts per greens in regulation.

How about charts instead of just percentages, much easier to see big discrepancies in your game. As the poster above says the more stats the better; GIR's resulting in pars, Fairways missed resulting in bogeys etc etc.

    Just to give you an idea of the one i'm using the longest (and I've tried a few);

    dont just steal their ideas:D

This is just one round and you can obviously analyse trends and compare all rounds etc.

Thanks for the feedback, it's much appreciated.

    A New earth,

A feature to allow users enter their own stats, or just more details in general could definitely be implemented. To be honest, I had initially planned on implementing far more categories but deadline realities struck and I decided I would tone it down in favour of getting the basics right from the beginning.

I hope to get back working on this in the next week or two so hopefully the site will have more detail before long.

    Senna,

Graphs are the next feature I intend to bring into the site next as I know just looking at figures can become fairly monotonous. I would love to have a scorecard type feature like the one you displayed above. Do you mind me asking if you ever fill out course details, e.g. par of hole, index of hole etc., or are they already there when you choose a course?

    Thanks again for the replies.

fill out course details, e.g. par of hole, index of hole etc., or are they already there when you choose a course?

They holes par is automatically added, but the index is not and it would be a nice addition to have that also.

    Hi PA,

Some comments based on a bit of a software background (so don't take them personally!)

    - Add a 'return to Login' link on the registration page
    - If the course entered is the same for round 2 default the greens and fiarways from previous entries
    - Some charting would be nice as previous posters listed
    - It's good idea to let people enter their course layout (Par ect) and store it in an array for presentation as a table as previously posted, that way people can build a catalog of course

All the best with it and let us know if there's a new version available for testing

    Giga

Thanks for the replies lads, plenty of good info there.

The array is a good idea Giga and would allow a nicer scorecard-type feature to be implemented. I think I might do that until I find/get the resources needed to automatically populate it.

Going to get cracking on the graphs for now as it would definitely improve the site.

I'd just allow people to enter in their own courses, but make them global so everyone benefits.
Another option would be to take a look at scraping the info from other sites, the info is public so no copyright infringement issues there.

Definitely add graphs to track historical scoring...would also be good to overlay the graphs so you can see the impact each stat has on your score.

It's actually Portrush. I was up there for the Irish Open this year, nice part of the world.

Have bar charts sussed now but I'm still working on pie charts and trend graphs. Hopefully update it over Christmas with the lot.
