FX Buckley's in Crow Street Templebar (back of the foggy dew), It'll set you back about 100 for the value meal with a nice bottle of wine ;)

Marco Pierre Whites, formerly Fitzers, on Dawson St does a good steak.

Bull and Castle at the Christchurch end of Dame St wouldn't let you down, usually best to reserve in advance. Decent brews as well.

    Whitefriar Grill on Aunguier Street

Bear on South Willam Street does huge steaks

Not city centre, but arguably the best steak in Dublin is the Butchers Grill in Ranelagh. 5 mins on Tram/LUAS from Grafton St. you need to book though.

If ever I'm in Dublin looking for a steak it's where I head. Love that you can pick any size you want. The steaks are very very good.

+ 1 for Darwin's. Irish organic Angus beef.

I love love love FXB'S, I've eaten in the one on Pembroke Street a lot with work and also in The Bull & Castle, you won't be disappointed! I just checked their website and it is a teeny weeny bit pricier than other steak restaurants BUT they dry age all their beef for 28 days so it is worth it!! Never eaten in the Temple Bar restaurant but im sure it's great too! we always book in advance because they are always busy!!

    Wherever you go....enjoy!!

The temple bar one is the best value, they have a value menu which is on all night it's really good. The prices in the bull and castle make me cringe I know the food is good but it's not a restraunt it's a pub and there's no value meal. I'd suggest op give the bull and castle a wide berth and head to one of the fx restraunts instead to impress the lady.
The bull annoys me, it's neither a pub or a restraunt. Wish it would make up its mind.

Aw The Bull & Castle is my favourite....I see where your coming from though!! just checked the web and they have a value menu too

The reason I love it is becasue you can have your meal and then go upstairs for music and drinks!!
I must try the Temple Bar Restaurant....seems to be a popular one!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 28,696 ✭✭✭✭drunkmonkey

Templebar is just a restaurant, but nice. You wouldn't want to be a vegetarian in it. The value meal in the bull only lasts to 7 in there. In Templebar it last all night.
If I was going for pub/food I think L Mulligan grocer is up there with the best of them. If you haven't tried it, it's worth a visit less than a 10 minute walk up to it from Templebar up to stony batter.
I love they way the change is delivered and its got a selection of Irish beers that puts most pubs to shame.

Lots of great suggestions here -- FXB Crow Street and Bear would be my favourites out of that -- but a word also for The Larder on Parliament Street. Any steaks I've had there have been first rate.

I love it there too....great spot!! ive never eaten from the bull and castle value menu but it has on the top of the menu 'All day value menu'!! think I might book the FXB in Temple Bar for next weekend is it suitable for a group of 15 people??....all this chat about steak is making me hungry!!

    +1

For CC Shanahan's is probably the best you can get, but you won't get much change from €200 for 2.

I don't know if they'l take 15, its not that big and fills up easy. They might be able to squeeze you in. I wouldn't hold my breath though.
There now doing some irish craft beers in there if you have to have a drink.

Not a single mention of Buenos Aires Grill beside the Radisson in Christchurch! Hands down the 2nd best steak in Dublin, after Shanahans.

+1 for Darwins too, but I find Buenos Aires better value.

I really though it was very over rated, overall disappointed with most parts of the meal, I wouldn't go back.

I'll second Bear. It's very cheap - they use different cuts but they taste fantstic. Quirky decor and waiting staff, but I was pretty impressed overall.

Apart from that FXB is fantastic but not too expensive. Go to Shanahan's on the green if you are not paying the bill. It's great but I would not spend my own money on it...

+1, was really let down there, poor steak, unpleasant atmosphere. bad service, wouldnt go again.

I can vouch for MPW on dawson street, been about four times, 30 ish euro for a steak, sides are nice too. its been around 100 euro for 2 ppl each time we went.

Will be trying the FXB's soon tho to give them a shot and the butchers grill in ranelagh if i can. nice steak restaurants are worth the effort.

great value for 25 euro for 3 courses on value meal with no supplement for rib eye or sirloin, if you can be finished before 8.30pm (avail fri, not sat tho).

Oof - as far as I'm concerned 'steak' and 'all you can eat' should never be put together in a sentence :D

Macro Pierre White or Fx buckleys Pembroke St. prob best option near Grafton St.

Was in Darwin's Monday, got a fantastic Rib-Eye steak, would definitely recommend

Cake, and grief counseling, will be available at the conclusion of the test

It's over €10 for a pint of gypsy, I nearly fell off my seat.

Probably because there is little appeal to eating beef originating from an area where the use of growth promoters is widespread, controls inadequate and tracability non-existant.

Had one of the worst meals ever in Buenos Aires.

Bad food, and even worse service.

Rustic Stone. They give you a hot stone slab that you can cook to your liking!

Actually Steak on a Stone is fantastic. The Queens in Dalkey do an excellent one, they do a €17 early bird on weekdays

Best one I ever had though was in Mastersons in Swords. Amazing

Good but by God is it noisy in there.

Can be a bit hit and miss IMO.

Sounds like just another passing fad to me. I expect chef to cook the steak to my liking.

Totally agree. I can't understand the appeal of going out and then doing the cooking! Or those who choose restaurants where they can watch their food being cooked.

...and the worst of all - those pretentious chefs who come out to the table to see how the food is and hoping to have their egos rubbed up. I'm always tempted to tell them to feck off back into the kitchen where they belong!

There's another threat going at the moment bemoaning the loss of customer service in Ireland. You really can't please everyone.

I don't see the chef personally checking that your food is good as egotistical.

Indeed, that's probably not in dispute - but not within an ass's roar of the OP's budget!

OP, check out JD's Steakhouse in Terenure. They do a facebook deal (check out their facebook page) and it's €20 for 3 courses, it actually feels like you're robbing them! I think it's might be midweek only though, sorry, can't access facebook where I am now!
But 3 courses are anything from the normal menu and includes everything, even the fillet.

Always wondered why the advertise places as argentinian steak houses! Famous for their angel dust enhanced meat!
