Camera on public street to watch car

What would be the craic with having a camera watching over a car on a public street? Is it legal or would I run into problems?

I can't always park in the same spot so it's an awkward situation, not entirely sure a camera could see it 100% of the time. I was thinking of something I could remove, like something on a suction cup arm I could put on the inside of the living room window. There are two particular little gurriers interfering with my car on purpose, they broke wing mirrors on me three times in the past and had no fear in telling me about it.

Talking to parents isn't an option as they're worse than the kids. Getting real fed up with this sh1t.

    Many thanks.

Putting a private camera in a public place is a no go area.

Pointing a private camera from a private residence into a public area should be no problem.

That's pretty much what I'd want to do, have something inside the house pointing outward.

I was looking at cameras for inside the car but looking out at it now condensation would be a problem!

mount a small camera on the outside of the house , you can get ones that are reasonably easy to hide and have night vision these days.

also get a shotgun for the kids

Hide in the bushes dressed as Jimmy Saville.

    That'll learn em.

That's ass backwards. You can photograph what / who you like if they are in a public place and you and your camera are in a public place, unless security restrictions apply (army barracks, Garda station, etc)

I saw a programme on tv3 not so long ago with the presenter who does similar work to donal mcyntyre except about the romas, escorts etc in dublin and he interviewed a man who you can contact and he can put up a cctv wherever you like in Dublin and you can watch the cctv 24/7 and it is perfectly legal so it is more than feasible to do and legal

No, that's wrong. You're free to video whatever or whomever in a public place.

I'm not sure a fixed camera will do the job, as I can't park in the same place each time. So I'll need to be able to change the view sometimes from across the road to the same side of the road but up along a piece. Herself already has a camera watching her car, she has a regular space though.

You'd think people would have more to be doing.

Disconnect the battery leads and hook up 230 volts to the shell of the car.

I take no responsibility of the outcomes though :D

you can get pan tilt zoom cameras that you can change the angle on. They are not covert by any means though

without going on about the programme in my earlier post, these cameras rotate 360 degress, zoom etc and are placed on lamposts if need be, you are assigned a code so you can login via your laptop and can view 24 hours a day and control the positioning -seemed very interesting

No, you're understanding is. If these kids are destroying his car, how long do you think a suction camera will last on the street lamp post?

Where did I say it was not legal, or prohibited? I said it was a no go area, but admittedly I did not develop my point far enough to be absolutely clear. I for one would not put a camera in a public place, unless I was able to supervise it. I would be afraid it would be blind sighted and damaged, or stolen.
