Have always fancied a wedding venue by the sea, either in cork, kerry, or dublin or wicklow..think it is romantic..Would love parknasilla in kerry wondering if anyone has any other ideas?

    I know of a place but I can't say.

There is some rule or something about shilling and what not.
    But parknasilla would be cool.

? You could pm or something, instead of just posting a cryptic useless reply.

    I agree Parknasilla is stunning.
Maybe check out Dromquinna Manor, between Kenmare & Sneem, hotelier John Brennan (At your service TV programme) owns it. Beautiful location.

Garryvoe's been 4 star for a few years now. It's certainly (relatively) affordable, but "budget" is a bit of a stretch. And they've been at it for decades, weddings nearly every day of the week, they have it down to a fine art.

I had mine there in 2008, but it was really the only option since I'd summered in Garryvoe since I was in nappies and always loved the hotel; and the wife loves it too. The food is great for weddings -- tasty, suits everyone, and they don't skimp. The staff are lovely and happy to help with special requests, and again, they work like a well-oiled machine. And the honeymoon suite is fab, only wish I'd had it for longer!

I made a valiant attempt to drink them out of Midleton Rare that might, but sadly I was unsuccessful. I reckon I'll have another go at my fiftieth.....

Wineport Lodge is a fabulous outdoor setting. It's not by the sea, it's by a lake, but it's right at the side of the lake and they can do ceremonies outdoors under a gazebo. I'd consider it if you're looking for a romantic setting near water...

even if you work somewhere, I think you can say "I work in <hotel_by_the_sea>". its a hotel by the sea.

Im open to correction, but I don't think that's shilling. shilling is if you posted something like.

"ooooohhh the greatest bestest place ever in the whole world is <insert hotel_by_the_sea>", you should definitely check it out, I was talking to the manager, (who I never met before), and they were just the darned nicest ever".

If raw information isnt allowable than half the posts up here wouldn't be allowed.

To OP, check out seapoint in wicklow. golf club, hotel, few houses on site for rent.

wineport is decent too even though its not on the sea.

    4 seasons in carlingford.

    waterford castle.

Yes Wineport is fab, and it couldn't be any closer to the water!

The Cliff House Hotel in Ardmore, Waterford (very pricey though) or The Lodge at Doonbeg in Clare (did I spell that right) - think that's on the sea too.

Ashford Castle is by the water too.

thanks, sounds good, will check it out!
I guess the sea in the east coast may be a bit calmer, as thinkin of april 2012 so it could be a bit choppy

I was at a wedding in Inchydoney Island a couple of years ago, it is just spectacular.

Went to one there a few years ago, hated it. Average wedding, average room, luxury prices. If the cost meant super staff I'd say something, but many of them can barely understand basic english, so they probably pay badly too.

I attended a wedding in Valentia Island recently and it was a huge success. Church is located in Knightstown right beside waters edge.

Thanks, that sounds interesting, where on the island was the reception held, is there a hotel there, its a drive-on island right?

I am planning my wedding also and have been trawling the cork region over last few days seeing venues.Hate the typical hotel function room thing etc etc so wanted country house type class but not too pretentious. I have to say the rectory is amazing, so beautiful especially if you love the beauty and calm of the sea,as I do. The other location, which I wasn't particularly excited about from the web page but had heard good things about is barnabrow in Cloyne..near Middleton. The website does it no justice. The minute I stepped inside the door (let's be honest, the rectory is way more spectacular on arrival) I was really impressed by the owners taste and style. It is quirky and classy with beautiful rooms, food is supposed to be out of this world, and I kept picturing what a deadly wedding venue it would make. I am absolutely torn between both venues as they are very different, both are so tasteful and beautiful. I initially had been v interested in ballinacurra house in kinsale but it was not a patch on either barnabrow and the rectory. I crossed it off my list after 10mins of looking around the place(beautiful on drive in, but...the inside in my opinion, didn't match up)

Anyone help me decide between the rectory and barnabrow?
