Commercial tax problem, controversial?

    Hi all,

I have a Seat Inca van, the tax has been out on it for a while now as when it went out I couldn't afford to pay it so I let it go.

I'm now in a position where I can afford to pay the tax but I don't really want to pay for the months I missed.

I just wondered if anyone has been in this position and what did they do? I think in the past it was possible to get a form stamped by the Gardai to say the van was off the road for a while and you could tax it from when you put it back on the road. Am I right in saying there is a new system now that you have to fill out the form BEFORE you take it off the road?

Any advice would be great thanks, no high horses though.

As far as I am aware you just need to make a declaration to a Garda and get them to stamp it for the non use period, if you genuinely haven't been using it there's nothing wrong with that.

The other system of declaring something off the road in advance was only talked about (last I heard).

RF100A form still has the non use section. I'm not sure if commercial is the same of course.
