Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

WIll the USI's "Fed up, Stand Up" Campaign have any positive impact on the budget?

So a couple of weeks ago the Tralee SU voted to support the USI's Fed Up Stand Up Campaign as the way forward for the student movement in the fight against fee hikes and grant cuts. They voted for this without any consultation or discussion from the students of Tralee including class reps.

The National March has been done away with and replaced with local marches (which we usually had anyway). Last year about 50 students showed up to this.

There are public meetings with politicians. Again, these have happened before and have had no impact. There is not a single example among the 14 times that 3rd level fees have increased that a TD in Power has voted against a budget that introduce fee hikes, grants cuts or cuts in education.

There is also the usual lobbying of the oireachtas. There have been three or four lobby documents submitted as part of anti-fees campaign in my time as a student and not once have any of the proposals been answered by the government.

That is essentially all there is to the campaign apart from changes to the usi website to promote it. It says just over 500 students nationwide have signed up online to the campaign (about 0.2% of their membership)

Does anyone actually believe this campaign will have any impact at all on the budget?

If you do, then please explain why you think it will.

    Thanks.
