Ariva 150 HD combo no longer getting satellite signal.

the box is 5 weeks old and last weekend the satellite feed just stopped working.

i can still get saorview on terrestial but no satellite signal.

the dish has not moved. i even tried putting up another dish (with new lnb) and trying that yet still no signal, and trying it on my neighbour's dish again no signal. Even the sat finder gets no signals.

is it possible that the box is now trash? This is the second freesat tuner to blow in the last 2 months.

oddily enough my neighbour's freesat box (connected to either dish also is no longer getting a signal.

can lnb's cause surges that can blow tuners?

Is there some option in the receiver for supplying power to the LNB that has been accidentally turned off?

The box is nothing to do with the equation.

The sat finder gets no signal! You have answered your own question! The dish is not alligned properly or the lnb is blown or the cables are not connected to the lnb correctly. Nothing to do with the box.

Are you sharing one dish between 2 houses ?

no there is 3 dishes up there... the box gets no signal from any of the dishes

it used to work fine up until last weekend... i was away and when i came back it was getting no signal.

the box was on standby mode while it was away

You just said the sat finder gets no signal.

Your problem is with the dishes.

the sat finder doesnt even flicker... surely it would get some form of signal.

one dish is brand new..only bought today

How do you expect the box to find a satellite signal if your meter doesnt register a flicker ? Have you tried aligning the dish properly. It has to be pointing exactly at the Astra 2 satellite ?

If they are seperate houses I would not suggest you share a dish with a neighbour unless you want to risk electrocution or damaged equipment.

yes... the dish belonging to my neighbour was put up by an installer and she gets a signal on her box... my other neighbour gets none on his box when we plugged his into the first neighbours dish... i get no signal either when i plugged it into her dish

we all live in a house that is sub divided into 6 flats

also no matter what way the dish is pointed the signal intensity stays at 45% signal quality at 10%... it never seems to change

this is the same when connected to any of the 3 dishes

Do you have planning permission to have three dishes up there?

I will help anyone once they know what they are doing.

My advice is you need an installer. I dont want to see you injuring yourself as a result of my advice.

the original dish worked perfect for years... i know it hasnt moved cos its bolted in such a way it cant move... im gonna return the box tomorrow as it is only 5 weeks old and still under warranty

the original sat tuner card (hvr 4000 mce card) that blew was due to a failed capacitor (the capacitor actually broke off)

the new box is the ariva 150 hd combo

But there is nothing wrong with the box. You need to get the installer back and he will check the cables at each end to determine what the issue is. You don't just stick a dish up without checking this.

Just be careful with what you are doing as it can be dangerous, especially in a flat scenario.

You do realise that the Arivas require you to select the satellite and scan for the channels I presume...

the dishes were cheap... sky dishes ;)

one cost me 20 carrolls for a sky dish with quad lnb (the original dish)

the other cost €23 for a sky dish with quad lnb and mount.

the 3rd dish is also a sky dish belonging to my neighbour who has sky tv.

if i can get the new dish working ill take down the original dish as my gf's dish has rusted to crap and ill swap the dish part of mine with hers so her signal improves.

i might just go back up on the roof and try aligning it one more time... ill let ye know how it goes ;)

Well they dish needs to be aligned properly! So you need to know what you are doing or no box will work!

Best of luck, its not rocket science after all.

You do if you are attaching more than one dish to a house.

    nope http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin//showthread.php?t=2055674631

none of the dishes are on the roof or chimneys.

none are visible from the street in front

Did you miss "not more than one such antenna shall be erected on, or within the curtilage of a house"?

Bit daft to link to something that goes against your argument.

A satellite dish (up to 1 metre in diameter, and no higher than the top of the roof) at the back or side of the house (a dish on the front needs planning permission). Only one dish may be erected on a house

i figured out why the sat finder isnt working... its not getting any power from the stb

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,138 ✭✭✭snaps

Sounds like what was already suggested, you've turned off the lnb power in the arivas settings. What satellite signal finder requires power from the receiver? I assume you mean a 5€ sat beeper? You really need a professional meter to align a dish.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 980 ✭✭✭Freddy Smelly

well ive replaced the stb and low and behold i get a picture again :) they had no ariva 150's in stock so they gave me a different make with a slot for a 2.5 inch hard drive.... now where did i leave my old broken laptop so i can take the hard drive out of it?.

seems the sat tuner on the stb did blow.

they tested it in the shop.

dishes are aligned properly... must take one down now as my gf needs her dish replaced as hers has rusted to crap.

and now for the ardous task of sorting my channels into lists :(

the slot your referring too is possibly a CAM slot (If its at the front) and not a hard drive slot.

no its a hard drive slot.. can take 2.5 inch drives... it even says so on the box. the card slot is on the front... the drive bay is at the back of the box

is it just me that cant find bbc 3 or 4 on astra 2... i can get it on astra 1 but not on 2

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,138 ✭✭✭snaps

Its on Astra 2, not Astra 1. Didn't realise you have a dish looking at Astra 1 at 19 east. BBC 3 and 4 don't start until 19.00. Until then you'll get cbeebies and cbbc.

Sounds like a Technistar, you'll be replacing the psu soon, and pulling your hair out trying to get the hard drive to work and figure out the recording function.
Bring it back and get an ariva as soon as they have one.

astra 1n is at 28.2 e bbc 3 and 4 are on this (astra 1n is supposed to be replacing astra 2a when astra 2a runs out of fuel) astra 2a has had to burn its engine a few times to avoid space junk thanks to china blowing up one of their satellites a few years ago.

    astra 1e - h is at 19.0 e

Yes, & you should refer to it as Astra 1N (@ 28 degrees east) to avoid confusion. 'Astra 1' on its own is usually taken as referring to the 19 east slot.
