It seems we are only getting the 64.1 BHP (65PS) version of the new 3 cylinder 1 litre engine. I thought this came in 99 bhp & 118 bhp versions?

Why do Ford never seem to sell the better engined versions of its cars here?

Because people won't buy them. Or they'll buy a diesel, or they'll buy a focus.

We took a new 1.3 dual vvti yaris into stock in 08, it was massively better than the 1.0, more economical, had 6 speed box, tax band A. €600 more than a 1.0 to buy.
You'd think we could sell it easiky? Oh no.
They'd sooner spend the money on feckin wind deflectors and a towbar for safety.

Because they would sell hardly any. It's as simple as that.

Irish people on the whole look for the cheapest possible way of 'going up the years' and don't particularly care about the kind of things most people in other countries care about, like power, equipment etc etc. The 65 PS engine will serve all of those people perfectly well while lowering the list price.

Looking at the brochure, I'm not sure why they're even bothering to bring the 3 cylinder in. The 3 cylinder being sold in Ireland isn't just a 3 cylinder without Ecoboost, it's even a watered down version of the naturally aspirated 3 cylinder being sold in the UK  :D!

It's absolutely laughable the versions being sold in Ireland compared to what they get in the UK.

In the UK, you can buy a new Fiesta with the following:

    - 1.25, 60 and 82 PS (same as Ireland)
    - 1.0 Ti-VCT, 80 PS (same engine is only 65 PS in Ireland )
    - 1.0 Ecoboost, 100 and 125 PS, not available in backward old Ireland, sure why would you want more power, "more things to go wrong" and all of that rubbish
    - 1.6, 105 PS (auto only), same as Ireland
    - 1.5 TDCi, 75 PS (also available in Ireland)
    - 1.6 TDCi, 95 PS (not available in Ireland obviously)

Meanwhile, the specs are something else. The Paddy spec Titanium is worse than the Zetec in the UK never mind the UK spec Titanium! Then there is also a Titanium X in the UK with part leather seats and keyless go. I doubt these are even options in Ireland somehow!

Irish people have got to have the world's worst taste when it comes to buying cars, only in backward old Ireland does less count for more.

The 99 or 118bhp versions would a decent enough performance though. Will be on offer in the UK.

They are planning on selling the new 1.0 litre Eco boost engine along side the existing 1.2 litre engine probably for some time. The 1.0 litre in de-tuned form will probably sit below that with lower emmissions.

Fiesta ST looks like it'll make it here. 180bhp, 6 speed. Might be a bit of fun?
