    Hi Guys

My hd desire is playing up all of a sudden.Whenever i go to make or receive a call the screen goes blank.Only way i can reset phone is by removing the battery and restarting phone again.

so in a nutshell i cant make or receive calls.Rest is fine.I can text,Browse web and use camera etc etc.Phone is original and unmodified.

i recalibrated the g sensor but no joy..Driving me Nuts.

    Any ideas?

Do you have a screen protector? Has dust or fluff accumulated under it, particularly where the proximity sensor is?

If so, your phone probably thinks it's still up against your ear hence the screen staying blank.

Yeah it sounds like a proximity sensor issue as the above poster said.

Tried That too..Looks like proximity sensor issue then?

Sounds like it yeah. It doesn't seem to be able to tell that the phone was taken away from your face.

If cleaning the outter case doesn't fix the issue you may need to clean inside which would involve basically dismantling the entire phone. Probably not worth the risk!

Pop into a local repair shop.

Edit: Or if its still under warranty bring it back to where you bought it.

Op, I had the same problem with a Sony Arc S on Vodafone network, brought it back to shop and they sent it of to be looked at, and when I got it back they said it was a software problem and now it's sorted.

A week later it was gone again, so of I go again back to shop. On the third time they gave up (fonemenders), and sent me back a new one, with no Vodafone software on it, and no problem's yet, and thats a good six months ago now.

There is an app on the new phone called, Function Validation Tool R0.16u, try it, it will test everything thats in the phone, including the proximity sensor.

This used to happen a lot with my sons old phone and it was the proximity sensor, you can try blowing into the headphone socket to clear the dust from the sensor.. worked for the original galaxy.

This used to happen to my old Desire. It had gotten wet and after drying it out in rice for a few days there was lasting damage to the proximity sensor. As I knew it was my own fault couldn't get it repaired under warranty so I just put up with it for awhile.

Some things I found that helped were when in direct sunlight the sensor would realise the phone was no longer at my ear and start working again. Also if I popped in headphones it would bring it back to life again.
