don't want to clog up the other thread with this so here we go.

the main requirement is automatic and seen its very hard to go diesel with one I can give diesel a miss. devil fuel and all that :D

and so with that I'm thinking of something like this 2001 Honda CR-V
Hi, I thought you might be interested in this advert http://www.carzone.ie/search/Honda/CR-V/2.0-AUTO/5413316554686920/advert?channel=CARS

I don't really mind fuel consumption and the 4wd I would prefer as it would be more handy if things ever got bad etc. (not saying it will but would be nice to have)

and a jeep Id be happy with.

so any thoughts on the above car ? what to look out for etc. ? timing chain ?

    and other recommendations welcome. :)

    thank ya'll

Why are you so set on a automatic?

honestly I do love the 6 speed gear box on the civic. it's really great having it for what I do and everything but it's getting too much for knees

GS300 is what you need, and the prices are dropping rapidly.

    cracking car.

but only 3 liter petrol ?

3 liter petrol is massive man. still a great car all the same

But when you buy them so cheaply it takes the pain off slightly.

GS300 does perfectly fit the bill tbh, cracking car too

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,964 ✭✭✭Kopparberg Strawberry and Lime

I do agree it fits the bill and is a cracking car definitely

but 3L petrol is too big for both tax and insurance. if I was a few years older I would get something like that definitely !

And it would feckin' drain petrol as well. Tenner bets Robbie is back on here with a ''my car eats petrol thread''...:D

Seriously an automatic CRV petrol will me mid 20's mpg, and that's going to hurt. :)

I like reliability and I like the looks of the crv :/

and they are vtec so I expect a lot of petrol to be used no problem..... really considering it.

I like and I don't like the Octavia at the same time.

I like it because it's a great car all round.

I dont like it because it's way too common car. you literally can't walk to far out the door without seeing it on the road etc.

    I know I'm worse than a woman choosing a dress !

OP, what are your requirements exactly?

You've gone from big e classes, to the CRV, to having an interest in the GS300.

Just seems like a wide selection of cars you're considering.

am considering all the above cars.

    my requirements are easy.

nice car, automatic, less than 2.5 for both tax and insurance and a slightly more unusual car e.g. not an avensis or Octavia.

other options that I would like but are not necessary at all are 4x4, leather interior etc. basically any possible extra you can get for the cash and car. 4x4 being a big plus for if I ever found myself in a field or a load of snow.

can be a saloon, estate or SUV but definitely not hatchback or coupe two door crap.

    budget less than 3.5 max

4x4 being a big plus for if I ever found myself in a field or a load of snow.

Lets be honest though...that's just not going to happen any time soon.

If you want a taste of luxury in a large petrol then the world is your oyster.

Saab comes to mind for me too, and obviously me being a BMW fanboi 3 series 325 or 320 whether saloon or coupe should come under budget.

Ok, no leather but it is cheaper to tax and is taxed until March. Bit of a spit and a polish could see it looking well.

I had a loan of a Legacy 3.0R SPEC B for a few days about two years back. It's one of the nicest cars I've ever driven.

For the insurance give Brittons Insurance a call, I thinking of purchasing a WRX myself and the have been the best quote so far.

I might ask when they are not looking after the rental
