Virtual Reality Turbo Trainers - Best Price

So having done a fair bit of looking around and research online and on Boards I've decided I might ask Santy for a VR Turbo. I just like the flexibility it will give me for training during the week when I just can’t get out. I'm hoping the VR element will make it at least half interesting.

However the best price I’ve seen online is €521 for the Tacx i-Flow T2250 Cycletrainer on Bike 24 which is a bit steep (more than half what my bike cost). I don't really fancy buying one second hand as it’s a complicated piece of kit and too much could go wrong.

Has anybody found a better price anywhere else? It seems that VR trainers have really jumped in price in the last year or so. Appreciate any suggestions.

Thanks had a look, still a bit out of price range. May have to settle for standard boring turbo.

If you got an older Tacx flow, you could buy the VR bit as an add on for about €160. The price of the Tacx VR kit has gone up due to the release of the new v4 of the software and newer Flow trainer. I'd be a bit concerned about what's needed to run the new software, Bike 24 have it needing Windows 7, 4GB and a four core processor, bike discount reckons it runs on XP in 1GB on a single core processor.

The whole thing on the previous release of the software and Flow trainer cost me €369 from Bike24. While I get a lot of use from it (typically 4-5 days a week in the cold months) and find it a great tool, the build quality isn't so good. The spring in the steerer has snapped and needs replacing, the brake grinds a bit after about 40mins into a session and is accompanied by a red flashing light that I can't find reference to in the very limited documentation. There's a fair amount of bellyaching on the tacx forum as well, although outside of the gripes listed my unit works well enough. I sure as hell would not buy one of these 2nd hand. FWIW, I'm running v3.9 of the software on a dedicated old dual core athlon XP box, and the software runs like a charm.

You also have the Elite real tour trainer as a cheaper VR option, though I know nothing about it.

Thanks for that smacl. I did not even consider the PC requirments. I was thinking of using a 5 year old PC i'm not using anymore. Think it only has xp and 1Gb Ram. Shame you can't buy the older cheaper versions. You have given me some food for thought. I need to do a bit more research into this! Might be worth me finding out of Tacx directly what the requirments are.
