    Hi all,

my (very young) nephew has shown a great interest in trad music and I would love to get him a beginners fiddle violin - 1/16 size. (Mygrandfather and mum play)

I want him to get the feel for a proper instrument so dont want anything plastic or battery operated.

I've scoured the internet for something cheap enough (more than likely will end up cracking body / bridge) even second hand but can't find something cheap enough. Average starting price 85euro upwards. No luck in Irish music websites. Sellers on ebay are primarily USA based, shipping costs too much and UK sellers wont ship to Ireland

If you have, know where I might track this down I would be very happy. As before, would be interested even in a second hand one.

ALL help hugely appreciated - many thanks! :D

So you want a quality instrument for less than €85? I can see how your having difficulties with that!

Errr no... I don't want nor expect a quality instument.

As above, I am looking for a basic, entry level violin / fiddle 1/16 size, even second hand just so he can get a feel for it and see how he progresses from there.

You can get entry level 4/4 size, Chinese made that are basic but have good dimensions - beginner kits from 45 - 60euro onwards, so I was hoping for the same price bracket in 1/16 size. The more research I do I realise that the small size is more expensive even at this level - probably more work in terms of intonation?

Thanks for your (un)helpful post though - if you have any constructive advice it would be appreciated, ta ;)

Sorry about that ! I just saw the "proper" instrument and "cheap" parts and put them together. My bad!
