Anyone know which one the above chips produces the most heat and if there is a noticeable difference in speed between the two of them ?

The i7 costs 150euro more than the i5 I'm not sure if its worth the extra money.

Depends on what you plan doing with it. Minesweeper will run the same.

The thermal design power is the same for both processors, 35W max. The maximum operating temperature of the i7 3632QM is a bit higher (105 C) than that of the Core i5 3210M (90 C).

As for the difference in performance, it's quite significant:

Hardly, modern software can use all available cores (and turbo boost if necessary) so even a single program would be "running faster" on a quad-core i7.

It all depends on your requirements. A quad-core i7 is a real powerhouse, ideal for design and modelling software, even video editing and image processing benefits greatly from the two additional cores. For ordinary computer usage (i.e. surfing the web, watching videos or office applications), a Core i5 has plenty power for some time to come and laptops are not made to last forever and a day.

Does the i7 have any advantages for playing or decoding blu ray discs ?

If you use a program that uses all the cores. The one with most cores will be faster, its that simple. Generally video encoding would be one of the few applications that uses all the cores. A lot of apps wouldn't. You'd have to go search benchmarks to see what does and doesn't. If I could I'd go with the Quad. Its better for multitasking.

Not so much for playing a bluray disc, even a Atom CPU with Ion graphics can do that without breaking a sweat and you don't want to play it "faster", now do you?

But when it comes to media encoding, the quad Core i7 clearly has the edge.

Would the i7 load a blu ray faster than the i5 ? any computer I have played blu ray on takes a while to load.

No. You'd need to look for the fastest loading blu-ray drive.
