Cable size for turbine

    Hi, Im doing a project and need to work out what size cable to run from a 3kw turbine back to the house.The turbine is 65m from the house and the supply is 230v.The cable will be a swa cable buried underground.Any help appreciated.

    First off I assume you mean 3kVA and the unit is single phase.
    If this is the case the cable should be sized on the basis of a 13A current.
    The smallest cable size normally selected for a current of this size is 2.5mm sq. however I think that the length of run will mean a larger size is required.

    Next you have to decide what the maximum allowable volt drop on this cable is. I would suggest 2 or 3%. Maximum permissible volt drop to the furthest point is 5%, which I assume is more than 65m from the turbine?
