Is a person with three children entitled to child benefit for all three if one child is living abroad in the care of a family member?

    Maybe.

It depends on where the child is living (what country, EU or non-EU) and it also depends on whether or not the parent is entitled to child benefit at all.

It also depends on if someone else is getting child benefit for the child in the country of residence abroad.

The best idea is to apply for it and let Social Welfare decide.

Thanks for that. The person is Irish and receiving the child benefit at the moment. One of the children will possibly move to the uk for schooling purposes and stay with the parent's sibling while there.

I suppose a call to the social welfare will clarify things.

Assuming both parents are still in Ireland, they continue to get child benefit in respect of the child. It is paid by the country where the parents work or draw social welfare.

If one parent was working abroad and one in Ireland, both countries would pay part of the child benefit.

It is best to email SW so that there is proof you let them know about the child's education abroad, this is far better than a phone call.
