I'm just wondering, I have a license that is now clear of points. I know I can bring it in and get a clean one issued, but just wondering, what do they need? Will my license alone, some pics and a fee do? Or do I need any other documentation?

    Advice appreciated.

Points are not noted down on a licence.
Unless you have any endorsments stated on it, there is no reason (or even possibility) to change your licence.

    Has your licence expired OP?

I don't understand why you would think you need a new one just because your points have expired?!!

Sorry there are endorsements. Talk about trying not to let everything out

But yeah that's why I'm changing it and i was even told by the lady when getting my license a few years ago that they would replace it after set period. Just wondering what documentation, if any is required other than my license.

An Irish driving licence is valid for 1, 3 or 10 years depending on which one you buy, I suspect this is what the lady was referring to.

You can only get a new one if it has expired, or if it is missing or defaced, not simply because your endorsements have expired.

See here for info on renewing an expired driving licence.

No she was referring to the endorsements, 100% clear on that.

Thanks for the link, looks as though I don't need much at all.

Actually while we're on the subject, does that office have a photo booth?

Link you provided seems to contradict what you just said.
According to it, OP is fully entitled to exchange his licence to have his endoresement removed.

Exchanging your licence to amend your name or address is a free service. It is also free to have an endorsement removed, a category added or an error on your licence corrected.
You must send a completed application form D.401, 2 passport type photographs (signed on back) and any required supporting documents, such as, an original marriage certificate. Contact your Motor Tax Office for more information

So in answer to my question, all I needed was 2 passport photos and my license, nothing else. They even supply the form.

Bless your eyesight :D , didn't notice that.
However it does seem a strange reason considering an endorsement is basically a note added to your driving record.

I never could really understand what endorsement is.
I assume though, that after introduction of new licences in Januray, there won't be any possibility to enter any extra information into your licence such as endorsement.

op, wait until early next year to get the credit card driving license instead of having another wad of paper floating around the place.
