Alfa 156 lacking...

Evening folks, posted this in the chat thread but got no reply as the pace of new posts in there is unreal, or people just don't give a sh1t but decided to start a thread just to get ideas.

Highly considering getting that Terraclean thing for the 156 assuming it fails the NCT with not too many problems(:pac:). Having said that, I feel the car is lacking in power somewhat recently, is there anything I could do that's handy enough to try and get somewhere back to the 120 horses it was producing when new?

Car is a 2001 Alfa 156 1.6TS. 81k miles. Cheers for any advice people.. :)

I'm not home at the moment, but I regularly use a treatment in my alfa that my mechanic recommended that you put in the fuel tank, and it does make a difference.

It comes in a white bottle with blue and red writing on it.

Makes a huge difference on emissions for the NCT, I'll ask the Oh to check it for me and post it for you?

    Where are you based?

Also what mileage are you on, and when was the car last serviced?

You're very kind, much appreciated. I'm based in Dublin 6, Rathgar/Ranelagh/Rathmines area. I'm on 81k miles, car was serviced about 6k miles ago I think.

I have been told it needs new spark plugs but would they make a difference?

    Thanks again btw! :)

Bold. sparks should have been changed at 60k miles. I'd imagine that's your problem?

Sorry I didn't read your OP properly as I'd have seen that.

You need eight new spark plugs, 20e a pop plus fitting, so about 300e in total if you've a decent mechanic who passes on his trade discount.

Will make a difference. I did it on my 156 at 70k instead of 60 and it changed how the car felt.

They could have been changed but I'm not 100% sure. I must investigate and do that. So change the spark plugs and run that bottle of ''stuff'' through the fuel tank should make a difference yeah?

Here's hoping, she still sounds fair decent though...:D

    Thanks very much! :)

    EDIT: http://www.micksgarage.com/service-parts/spark-plugs/alfa-romeo/156/156/1997-2005/1.6-16v-t.spark/8808/

Which ones would be the best option?

You need four of the small ones, and four of the big ones, sorry for sounding like an idiot, but I let my mechanic deal with it to be honest.

Did you plug your licence number into Micks website? If you did, it looks like they are calling out the two different parts you need.

Changing the sparks will make a difference, and that stuff I talked about tends to help too, I'll post up details or pm you when I get it.
