    Hi

A friend bought a car a couple of years ago, 4 or 5 years ago at this stage. At the time the seller gave her the log book, they both signed where indicated and log book was left in a drawer until now.

So the previous owner is still offically the registered owner although she has been able to tax it all this time.

What needs to be done next?

How has she been ncting it etc

There's a chance the seller requested a duplicate and changed it over a second time after testing tax reminders, nct letters or whatever in the post.

Book the NCT with the reg number and the first date of registration. I've put a couple of cars in for NCT and not had to show log book or ID at all. Not since the new rule where by they now insist on ID but sure they are supposed to insist on seeing the log book and haven't asked me for it. In fact I believe the last time in Carlow, I actually asked the guy if he wanted to see it.

As for the OP, fill in the form and send it off.
