Amiko Alien 2 Problem

Hey guys, was advised to post in this forum. Just wondering if anyone can offer advice on a problem I'm having with the Amiko Alien 2.

There is a sky dish with quad lnb installed in my house and i've connected the two lnbs in the sitting room to the two satellite tuners of the alien. I have tuned in the fta channels and can receive them all no problem.

The problem is using the pvr function. It appears that only tuner 2 will receive the channels so when I hit record I can only watch other channels from the same transponder. I have switched the leads going into the box and the problem remains so its definitely not a cable/dish/lnb problem.

I think its in my tuner configuration settings. I've tried loads of combinations but can't get one that works. This problem is the same whether i'm using spark or enigma2.

If I set both tuners to astra 28.8 i get no signal. I have to turn off tuner 1 or set it to another satellite for tuner 2 to work.

Does anyone know what exactly the settings should be for a sky dish quad lnb, or any other suggestions as to what the problem might be?

    Thanks.

Not sure about spark, but on e2 try:

    Tuner A:simple,single,28.2,no diseqc.
    Tuner B:equal to,Tuner A.

thanks rurs but that didn't work unfortunately. just get a message saying "tune failed" on all channels.

Well that's odd, I think you'll need to check each cable and tuner ie:

Cable 1 into Tuner A, disable Tuner B, see if it works.
Cable 1 into Tuner B, disable Tuner A
Cable 2 into Tuner A, etc etc.

    Maybe a faulty tuner module?

Are you using Spark OS or E2 ?

Thanks rurs. I have already checked that, both cables work with tuner 2, and neither work with tuner 1 which would suggest a faulty tuner module i guess. I just wanted to confirm that I was using the right settings.

Rob: I've tried under both and get the same problem.

if you are getting nothing from one of the tuners then it does sound like a tuner issue.

Might be worth letting who you got it from know and see about returning it.
Don't let it put you off the box though as it is a neat piece of equipment

Contacted the shop I bought it from. They said its a common problem when using sky lnbs with non-sky boxes. They said to return the box if I believed it to be faulty.

Has anyone else heard of this problem? Is there any point returning the box if the lnbs are the problem? Should I replaced the lnbs?

Yes I have seen odd behaviour with Sky Quad lnbs but that involved feeding a diseqc switch and a single feed other box.

If it is a Sky Quad LNB try ports 1 and 4 at the LNB to see if that resolves it.

Can't say i've had that problem myself .. i have an OCTO LNB going to various different boxes without issue ... but thats not to say problem can occur ..try what STB says and then you should know for sure whether its LNB issue or something else

Ok heres where my knowledge runs out. When you say try ports 1 and 4 at the LNB do you mean choose those ports in the settings or get on the ladder and run cables from the lnb ports at the dish to the box?:) The satellite cables are wired into the walls already with two cables going to the sitting room and two others going elsewhere in the house. Is there anyway I can tell which leads are going where? I don't think they're labelled.

it would be from the LNB, alternatively you could move the box to each location where the cable comes into the house and try tuner 1 on each cable to see if tuner 1 picks anything up

The OP said that he tried both cables and they worked with one tuner but not the other.

Seems clear that the problem is the box and not the LNB.

Don't have an alien (on my to do list) but I have seen this problem with openbox/skybox and quad LNB.

Try it without another box connected to LNB and see if it cures problem,

There is no other box connected to the LNB. The sky dish and four lnbs were run before I moved in to the house. I'm only using the two in the sitting room into the alien.

Should you not have two cables coming from 1 LNB

A quick question on this box...

I have a Ferguson Ariva 120 and want to upgrade to a triple tuner with two card readers - I have both Cyfra and Al Jazeera subscriptions. Will the Amiko Alien 2 and/or the Golden Media equivalent read both cards? The Al Jazeera card is the Viaccess verion. Thanks.

These are my settings Im getting everything cleared. This is for the engima2 image.

    Tuner a DVB-T (DVB-T)
    Enabled

    Tuner B d35001-1 (DVB-S2)
    DiseqC A/B
    Sats Astra 1N/2A/2B/2D/eUTESLAT 28A (28.2EAST)
    Astra 1N/2A/2b.

Select ok and this brings you into configuration mode. while each one is highlighted

    Configuration mode Simple
    Mode Diseq (A/B)
    Port A Astra 1N/2A/2B/2D/eUTESLAT 28A (28.2EAST)
    Port B Astra 1N/2A/2B/2D/eUTESLAT 28A (28.2EAST)

    Sat voltage and 22KHZ yes
Send Diseq only on sat change NO

    Tuner C d3501-1-0 (DVB-s2)
    DiseqC A/B
    Sats Astra 1N/2A/2B/2D/eUTESLAT 28A (28.2EAST)
    Astra 1N/2A/2b.

    Configuration mode Simple
    Mode Diseq (A/B)
    Port A Astra 1N/2A/2B/2D/eUTESLAT 28A (28.2EAST)
    Port B Astra 1N/2A/2B/2D/eUTESLAT 28A (28.2EAST)

    Sat voltage and 22KHZ yes
Send Diseq only on sat change NO

This works for me and have not tried to record anything (Still waiting on external hard-drive to arrive.) yet so I don't know
if its set up correctly for recording but s I said above all channels including hd channels are cleared. My Tuner a DVB[/B]-T (DVB-T) is connected to my saorview aerial

    Hope this helps you out.
