Acacia Wood Flooring

Hi all,
Does anyone know where to get engineered or solid Acacia flooring. I’ve tried a couple of places but was expensive between €60 to €70 per sq. metre.

If you have, what has been the experience…does it mark? Would you recommend it?

Tying to decide between Walnut and Acacia at the moment.

Hi.
walnut as a colour would be more expensive than the normal oak. It is a lovely colour when laid. Take a look at your room before buying to see will it suit its enviorment. Consider a few things,
Is there plenty of light in the room ?
What colour furniture is going on floor ?
light and furniture colour can impact the flooring colour.
Limited light tends to make the room small looking.
Dark furniture will also make the room small looking.
What your looking for is a contrast between light - furnityure and floor colour

Planning to have white furniture units in the room, which also has plenty of light.

The concerns are the colour of floor, the price, and more importantly the durability and the wearability.

Acacia is the flat topped tree that dots the African landscape.I'm surprised its available in flooring boards.Is it a 'blond' wood.?
For a pale wood you could have ash, birch , maple or white American oak. Avoid 'parawood' which is the featurless wood of the rubber tree used in low end flooring.Personally I'd pick walnut for a 'chocolate' finish thats timeless.!

!.The Price - walnut solid would be around that price. you may get a different supplier who would have a different Walnut maybe 95mm I think your board is 122mm. Pro rata the price level would be the same.
2.Durability- Is reasonable. You can give you floor durability by using felt pads under furnture - keep the high Heels off the floor - Dust, sand, brought in on shoes can damage the floor too. Hardwood flooring is a product of nature and will scratch and dint slightly. You only can help to minimise this by using a few of the above pointers.
3. Usually the flooring is 3 or 4 coats of factory uterane finish water based which is fairly durable
check with your supplier he should be able to give all the tech spec on flooing.

Use a Professional floor fitter to lay your floor. A good carpenter is not necessarly a good floor fitter. Why pay big bucks for a great floor and have it fitted incorrectly.

If your buying solid walnut look at the under side of the boards and make sure they are of dark heartwood not the lighter cream coloured sapwood as this sapwood may also be on the upper surface but stained to look like the heartwood which is ok till it gets scratched through the stain and you have cream coloured scratches on your dark floor
