I need to buy a new car, I would be greatful for any suggestions...my main criteria are:

    No more than 8,000 euro
Diesel...I need a car thats fuel efficient
    No older than 2006
    Reasonably low tax

I am not big into cars so im not too sure what is the best car to go for, I was thinking of something like an opel astra, or puegot 307? Opinions appreciated

only 40K miles, and no I'm not selling it, . But it's a steal at that price.

On energy tyres this car is capable of 65+ mpg, I get 60-62 in winter on winter tyres.

In summer I can usually get 840 KMS on 37 litres of petrol. Still on winter tyres, that's what the car came with when I got it.

Not the most fun and not a rally car but can hold the bends all the same.

Engine 1.5L 75 HP, 85 lb ft torque,

Elec motor 67 HP and 300 lb ft torque from 0 rpm.

8 year warranty on hybrid or 150 K miles, it's rare that the Prius breaks down. One of the most reliable cars on the road.

Less maintenance than a Diesel, no timing belt to change only oil and filter every 10K miles, that's it. Coolant change at 100K miles and gearbox oil at 100K miles. Can only be done at Toyota. No twin mass flywheel to fail, no particle filter to fail, only belt is water pump. No alternator, okay there is but it's in the gearbox :-)

Cheaper tax than a 2.0L diesel too. And it's a decent size. And plenty reach 300K + miles, a lot of the 1st generation from 1998 still on the go in the U.S and Japan.

The Prius is one of the most sensible cars you can buy.

HAHA okay let me rephrase, it's not my car! ;)

There are pics of mine somewhere on boards, so you should see that mine is black!

This particular one seems to have NCT till July 2011 and Tax till Nov 2011.
Looks like the car was laid off for over a year. Would that not do any harm to prius?

I doubt that Prius is even on Irish plates, look at the windscreen

Not that vrt is expensive, but still.

Says nct is expired so I'd say it is on Irish plates with an nct.

I don't understand someone wanting to sell a car not bothering to get nct, but these are seriously reliable cars and too good to let go with the miles.
