Anybody still waiting on BTEA?

    My bf applied to be switched over to BTEA in August at the earliest possible moment. He had gone into the Social Welfare Office in July but was told he couldn't switch until August.

    So he has been into the SWO twice to provide additional documentation that was required but he still hasn't received any payments or a decision. Just wondering if he should start ringing them or is this wait time normal? Anybody else still waiting?

    I applied in June and got approved for BTEA on August 13th pending the confirmation letter from the college. I dropped that in around the 20th of Aug as soon as I got it and I am still waiting for my payment to be switched over. I have to keep taking Monday mornings off college to collect my money in the post office, and I have taken time off to go to the dole office numerous times in person (they don't answer phones) and keep getting told that "I will be notified when the payment is changed" and the reason is "nobody is there to update the system".

    The best one was when I was told by a brutally honest girl on the hatch that my letter "was still probably sitting in a box" to which she then confirmed by checking. I was told there was only about "35 claims left and that it would probably be sorted that week". That was a month ago now!

    Everybody else I know that is on BTEA got their payment last month and also got the €300 cost of education allowance.
    It's getting beyond the joke now as the semester is nearly over and I still haven't got the money to buy books without the €300 which I won't get till the BTEA is sorted:mad:

    Unfortunately for my boyfriend he isn't getting anything since August.

    He had to take a couple of mornings off college to drop in documentation and to attend on a designated sign on day until it transpired, after 2 sign on days, that he wasn't actually required to do so.

    Hope it gets sorted soon.

    It's a disgrace the way they treat people, I know it was annoying having to go to the Post office but at least I had something to collect.
    It's not right that your boyfriend was left with nothing, he should go to the local community welfare officer and get a supplementary payment until they sort it out.
    I finally got a letter today to say my BTEA will be changed over next week, although I had to send a complaint email to qcs@welfare.ie to finally get something to happen, perhaps your boyfriend could try this also as I even got an email from the dole office with an explanation about the delay caused :eek:.

    I'll get him to contact them, fingers crossed he'll hear something soon. Unfortunately our local CWO is available to meet people during college hours and he can't afford to miss anymore time, he has exams coming up.
