Physical vs Mental peak in Boxing

Just looking at the top ten P4P boxers thread , most of the the top ten are 3-4 years past their physical prime .They are all obviously still in great physical condition, but not their best.

I think Vitali and Manny are clearly furthest away from their physical best ,Vitali has recurring injury problems which showed up badly against Dellboy , Manny has recurring injury problems which resulted in him physically pacing himself when beating Bradley.

But In general ,Do you think a boxer peaks a few years after their physical peak ?

Think it has got to do with the level of opposition. Realisticly the Klitschko's and Mayweather could fight on another few years and still beat the opposition they're facing

Many factors. The older and slower you get will see you suffer in the speed/reflex sense, but the more experience will help you adjust to new situations etc. May also see you take a shot that little bit better.

I'm 33 now and still train very regular, not as much as when competitive in Boxing but still most nights, I reckon I am far better now than when i stopped Boxing at 27, this is down to been more experienced and using my head better than when younger, Some Boxers such as Tyson would clearly be better when he was physically more fierce than others like Wlad who is all about the brain..
