    Hey guys,

    I have a sky box and account(not sky+)

Looking to record what I am watching, can anyone point me in the direction of a hard drive recorder, looked on eBay but most seem to be linked with Freeview in the Uk.

    Thanks

    Hi,
The simplest way to do what you want is to change your sky box to a sky + box. You can get one of these for 30 euro or less here on adverts.ie . All you need to do then is to ring Sky and ask them to activate sky + on your a/c. There is no additional charge for this facility.

Long story short won't be going for sky + so any other options. Thanks

Humax Foxsat HDR for Freesat. Best current model for. Very flexible. Easy to use
Depends on your budget, and how comfortable you are with working receiver menu /setup

So would I be able to connect this up to my sky box to record also?

If you use the SKY box then you will be recording from the SCART or Aerial socket

You can set SCART control on. And when you use the remote to take the box out of 'standby' the box the TV will change to that scart socket.

I have not been able to get that to happen with the series link/auto view option on the orginal SKY boxes. The SKY+ box with the hard drive doesn't even have an auto view option. And once autoview is on the box stays on until the sleep timer takes effect.

So you would either need to program the recording device separately as it isn't controlled from the box or just record all the output and try and figure it out later on.

    Plan B
Some non-sky receivers work with a SKY card , and put a recorder on that

If you told us the long story it'd be easier to help you.

The long story is for several reasons I wont be getting sky +.

Therefore my only Other option is a hard drive recorder. That's why I am looking for one.

    Thanks

If you cannot/willnot get Sky+ or Sky+HD then purchase a hard disk (HDD) recorder and record what you want onto that, you will have to check that it can take and analogue input from the RF output, or use the Scart socket.

Something like the below has anaolgue input.

    http://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-RHT497H-Digital-Recorder-160GB/dp/tech-data/B002BSI3UI/ref=de_a_smtd

Most of the freeview ones should work as they will take and analogue signal and you only need to tune the Sky channel.

Would be cheaper, more user friendly, easier to use if you just upgraded to Sky+ though.
