Tuning in saorview channels into hard disk recorder (HDR)

    Hi,
I have a Samsung saorview approved TV and a sony hard disk recorder (HDR) and both have been working fine up to Oct 24th with channels from my digital box and Irish channels from my "dog ears" aerial tuned in fine. The only restriction is that I have to watch the channel I'm recording from be it the Irish channel or digital UK channel.

When the digital switch over occurred on October 24th, I tuned in my saorview approved television to all the irish channels. I am using a "dog ears" aerial to get these and tranmission is fine.
However I am unable to tune in these channels to my (HDR). Prior to October 24th, I had no issue in tuning the "dog ears" channels into the hard disk recorder. I also have a digital box whereby I get all the UK channels and this is tuned into the hard disk recorder via the "Line 1" route. The Irish channels used to come in as PR1, PR2, PR3 etc i.e. separate program channels. If I purchase a saorview approved box, will this allow me to tune in the irish channels into my HDR while still being able to tune in the UK channels from the digital box?

If the HDD recorder has analogue tuner only, then no. Post the model no of the HDD recorder.

What digital STB do you use for the UK channels, is it a satellite or terrestrial receiver? If terrestrial, can you tune in the Saorview channels?

If not a Saorview STB will be required and attached to a scart input (e.g. Line 2) on the HDD recorder. Even with 2 STBs attached you will only be able to record from one STB at a time

The Sony recorder appears to have an on board analogue tuner only which is redundant since the Irish analogue channels were switched off on Oct 24th. A recorder with a digital tuner will be required to record the way you recorded previously with the Sony.

I have a HDD recorder too. My Triax TSC 114 Combo box is connected to the AV2 Scart socket on the HDD recorder. I record whatever the set top box is 'seeing' by selecting AV2 on the recorder.

Thanks for all the help - looks like I'm going to need to purchase a saorview STB or alternatively a combo (satelite + saorview) STB. Would you recommend any combo boxes, what is the price range and do they have their own inbuilt hdd as an option?

    Thanks

Combis here - http://www.tvtrade.ie/satellite-receivers/combined-digital-receivers.html, the Triax and Walker are Saorview approved. None that I know of have built-in HDD.

Walker are launching a Saorview approved PVR and should be in the shops next week - http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?t=2056788729&page=2, speculated to be around €250.

There are other non Saorview approved PVRs out there e.g. http://www.boards.ie/vbulletin/showthread.php?p=80779820
